Favorite Book: On Film-Making
written by Sweet Smell of Success director Alexander Mackendrick this book is essentially a textbook into the craft that is film directing. It literally covers every single aspect of the job from writing, acting, editing, cinematography and even casting. PLUS there's an introduction by Martin Scorsese!

It should be noted that most of these aren't necessarly movies I look to as sources of creative inspiration but more like films that opened my eyes to the possibilties of film as career goal. Artsy movies are great, but no filmmaker should ever forget the capacity to capture audience's imaginations. That can be done on a purely visceral level but you can also capture your audience's intellectual imaginations as well. There's plenty of room for popcorn movies AND art films in all of our lives, or at least there should be.
