I really want to see the premiere of Spike Lee's "When the Levees Broke, a Requiem in Four Acts," tonight, but he, or HBO rather, decided to broadcast it at the same time as Monday Night Football with the New Orleans Saints taking on the Dallas Cowboys. WTF? Come on man! Making me choose between a much-anticipated documentary on the horrendous destruction of my beloved city of New Orleans and my equally beloved New Orleans Saints on Monday Night (which we almost never get)? Too cruel. Well, I guess I'll have to catch the re-broadcast on HBO because there ain't no way I'm missing Reggie Bush and Deuce run the Cowgirls into utter defeat!

brianbibbly [email] said at 2:59 PM 08-21-2006: It does, and it isn't. There was wide reporting of large, loud bangs accompanying the water in the lower 9th. Its been attributed to either the sound of the concrete walls bursting themselves or the sounds of barges, etc striking the floodwall. Either way, surely there would be some forensic evidence that explosives had been used, which there is not. This theory has been espoused before in prior hurricane/flooding situations. The US Army Corps of Engineers negligence and faulty design of the floodwalls is just as bad as blowing the damn things up in my opinion though. People need to focus more on that and less on silly government conspiracy theories. But it is Spike Lee after all, and there is no narration in the documentary. He just let the people speak. What they said is what you get, conspiracy theories and all.

ericanm [email] said at 10:37 PM 08-21-2006: i am watching this right now and he just showed many people from the 9th ward saying they heard what they thought was an explosion. he followed that up with an explanation of how the levees were destroyed by the government during the hurricanes of 1927 and 1965. the next group of people who spoke explained that the sound of explosion could have been the sound of the levees breaking and water exploding through them. i think he is just trying to represent all sides and all opinions.
