The game I've been animating on for the past 6 months or so is out!
Bone: Out From Boneville is the first installment in the episodic series that tells the tale of Fone Bone as written by Jeff Smith. If you or someone you know was a fan of any of the LucasArts adventure games like Sam & Max, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle, or Monkey Island... then you'll definitely dig this game. Many of the same creative heads worked were involved in making it.
It's for PC and is download only, and the demo is free. Full version is only $20! So check out some of my animation and help support my butt in the future at the same time, not to mention adventure games in general!
Other good news is that Steve Purcell reacquired rights to the Sam & Max license, and is going with Tell Tale Games to do the next game! This won't be the Sam & Max that LucasArts cancelled, they are starting from scratch.
Seriously spread the word to any of your gamer friends, the advertising budget is pretty much non-existent and we are relying on word of mouth with all the adventure game fans. Going to download now!
zack [email] said at 12:34 PM 09-16-2005: OH SHIT YOU WORKED ON THIS?? I was thinking about linking to it, but I didn't think anyone would be too interested. I guess there's not going to be a mac version? :(
loren [email] said at 12:52 PM 09-16-2005: Nah, no Mac version unfortunately, they just don't have the resources. The demo sort of sucks, but the rest of the game is the goods.
loren [email] said at 4:20 PM 09-16-2005: I was thinking about that earlier. I don't have VPC on this laptop right now so I can't say... but it might be worth a try to install the demo and see... it's free.
abby [email] said at 1:55 PM 09-16-2005: oh man! i like bone, i like monkey island, this game will rule i am sure of it. if only i had my own pc! oh sobz.
congratulations on working on such an awesome thing, though!
myriam [email] said at 3:26 PM 09-16-2005: whoa weird! I used to draw this little guy in all my junior high notebooks, and years later I found them and could not for the life of me remember who he was! Wow! thanks for giving me back a piece of my past. ;) If i had a PC i'd buy the game.
myriam [email] said at 5:25 PM 09-16-2005: well that part I knew. But I don't understand enough of coding to understand why the OS will be more exploitable now.
loren not logged in said at 7:40 PM 09-16-2005: I've used both afore mentioned machines and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. The switch has to do with more than the chip speed.
jake [email] said at 6:02 PM 09-16-2005: Ed, you protest too much.
Second thing first, I could care less who was on this site first but you're wrong.
First things second, are you "ripping on Mac users," or "poking zealots with a stick," or do you really actually really not care?
Personally, I think your joke was mean spirited, shallow, and unfunny, and the fact that your comeback to my own "poke" was "Shut up and fuck off" speaks for itself. Clever up, son, you're embarrasing yourself.
ed [email] said at 6:40 PM 09-16-2005: Oh, I'm sorry.
Maybe I should call Josh "Dad."
Gee, that would be clever! If only I'd thought of it first!
Although it would likely take a microscope to verify this, it seems that your peener gets hard whenever you get to "call me out" for jumping on whatever "bandwagon" you've assigned to me. And yet, I'm embarrassing myself. Clue for ya: I didn't initially jump on the Jake-hatin' bandwagon because I thought you deserved a chance to prove you're at least somewhat less irritating than you initially appeared to be. My mistake.
But I guess it's true that I'm embarrassing myself, because at least I have a shred of dignity left to lose, unlike some others who never had it to start with. Yeah, that'd be you.
You're not worth my time or energy, and to be quite honest, you bring out the worst in me with your simpering little protests about how I'm being "mean spiritied" And you've cornered the market on unfunny. So rip on, you witty and oh-so-erudite wag.
I ain't gonna bother with ya anymore. Go ahead, call me a pussy, proclaim the moral high ground, shout your victory from the rooftops. The "last word" is yours. Enjoy it.
jake [email] said at 7:42 PM 09-16-2005: I was gonna respond, and then I wasn't.
And then I changed my mind again.
Ed, you go after my goat, I go after yours. I meant what I said though, and no, I'm not gonna throw insults back at you. I respect you and I enjoy reading what you post. Some of your comments irritate me though (and obviously I do the same). I hope you don't take it personally and I hug your soul with both arms and no back-thumps.
zack [email] said at 5:15 PM 09-16-2005: see, this is the kind of stupid shit that's really annoying in life. Apparently just OWNING A MAC makes you a "zealot" worthy of mockery. And then later, someone will defend said behavior by saying "but your kind started it".
loren not logged in said at 7:43 PM 09-16-2005: unless you've spent time on a mac, enough to actually get it, then you can't say shit about it. I use both extinsively, and I fucking deplore working in Windows. Color me a zealot.
loren [email] said at 4:13 AM 09-17-2005: i've played through it a good bit, and the gameplay is pretty simplistic... the target audience seems to be WAY younger than something like Monkey Island. My 5 -8 year old cousins seem to love it.
jeremy [email] said at 11:37 AM 09-17-2005: loren, this is awesome. i'm going to buy this. how long have you worked for this company and do you like the job? also, where is it located and are they hiring? I'm going to be getting my masters in computer graphics in may and i like to keep a tab on game companies and sheeeeit.
out of curiosity, how would you respond to this review? do they perhaps mention things you wished could have been different?
i think it's cool that you're actually a part of the industry - it was something I've always thought of doing, but was way too lazy to do anything about. maybe one day.
Thoth said at 4:48 PM 10-03-2005: Republican Commando? Do you Mean the "Star Wars: Republic Commando"? Just curious if there is a game about actual republican cammandos.
the star wars commando game was pretty damn fun tho.
jake [email] said at 4:40 PM 10-03-2005: The demo was great.
I agree with the review--it was more like a playthrough reading than a game of its own. But I liked that more than the reviewer did.
I especially like the back and forth negotiations between the Bones.
