March Madness
from the NY times today -" only one team seeded less than #8 has made it to the Final Four, LSU, #11, 1986."
Hell yeah. Rick Blanton, Darryl Joe, Anthony Wilson, Oliver Brown, Bernard Woodside, Neboisha Bukamaravich, Don Redden, Nikita Wilson, Jose Vargas, Zoran Jovanavich, Fess Irvin. I'm probably leaving a few out and adding a few in but thse guys were the best. Don't forget Dale Brown's Freak Defense and Johnny Jones on the bench. We whipped Kentucky on the quarterfinals. We should have beaten Indiana that year, up by 7 with three minutes left. Bob Knight did that phone slamming thing, which should have gotten him thrown out. Keith Smart (McKinley) hit the shot that won the tournament for Indiana that year. Anyway LSU was the most fun team to watch back then. Hugging in the huddle and stuff. I even miss Jim Hawthorne. Shaq and Chris Jackson came along a few years later, and they had mind-blowing talent, but the final four teams were spectacular. Cj was the most amazing player I've ever seen. I played against Randy Livingston in high school AAU, and he was close, but Jackson was like lightning. The cleanest jumpshot I've ever seen. Before he hurt his ankles he did these backside alley oops that were amazing. The pull up between the legs jumper was unstoppable. two-time all american. Shaq, on the other hand, would just try to dunk the ball as hard as he could every single time, so that was fun to watch too.
But the final four teams were the best- Ricky Blanton (playing Center at 6-5) running down the court doing the steamroller with his arms, I'll never forget that.
