Camera geeks, advice please!

I have broken my digital camera, and this makes me sad. Although I have been going thru (and continue to) some tough economic times, I am about to turn the corner and should have enough discretionary income to purchase a new camera soon. I've done some looking around, and have come up with this as the current object of my desires:

Specs are here. The main draws for me are the 10X optical zoom, the fact that it actually *feels* like a camera (I have taken a few pictures with one, although I never got to see them), and the really nifty pop-up flash. When I first started looking, I was intimidated by the price. Amazon's got 'em listed at $350 right now, but it was $400 not too long ago. They have resellers with it at $325, but looking on Froogle today, I saw the site linked above has it at $235. Shoot, that's not a whole lot more than I paid for my crappy HP photosmart camera.

So. Anyway, does anyone have any direct or anecdotal evidence of why this would be a bad buy? I know a lot of people prefer smaller size, but when it comes to cameras, I really like the feel of the old-school SLRs, and this one has that in spades. Any other drawbacks you can think of?

Thanks!

Then again, perhaps the specs are here.

For a 4 or 5-megapixel camera, seriously consider a Canon.

Canons are still generally in the $300+ range, which is out of budget. Plus, they use CF cards, which means I would have to purchase that as well, upping the total cost. I already have three SD cards, which work with the KonicaMinoltas. I do like the fact that the Sureshot S1 (I think? I've forgotten) has the flip-around LCD screen, but not enough to invest another $125-$150 for it.

For anecdotal evidence, good or bad, have you checked dpreview.com? Try the Konica Minolta forum, if the camera is not reviewed.

taking pictures is dumb. BUT if you insist here is a review from the dpreview.com site shell mentioned.

that site has very detailed reviews. sometimes too much.
ed [email] said at 7:10 AM 03-09-2005:
Holy crap, you dudes rock! Because of your suggestion to check the review, I found out that the Z2 doesn't have image stabilization, which is hugely important to me. I'm kinda twitchy. Haha! But the Z3, the next model up, does. And it's got a 12X optical zoom, as compared to the Z2's 10X. And I found a site with the Z3 that's actually $10 cheaper than the best price I found on the Z2!

Correction: Kevin rocks! Not only was I too lazy to link the site last night(much less look up a review)...but I found out about dpreview from *him* last year :)

is image stabilization something that will make the lag time longer when taking pics? cause that would REALLY annoy me.
ed [email] said at 6:51 AM 03-10-2005:
None of the reviews mention this as being a tradeoff. As a matter of fact, I read in one of the reviews that there's a "burst mode" or some such thing for taking action shots where you can shoot insanely fast.

But my hands are seriously shaky, and I like to take low-light shots without flash quite a bit. Image stabilization is crucial.

I didn't read any of the details, I just looked at that pretty picture and thought to myself, Holy Shit, that thing looks like HAL! Open the pod bay doors and buy it, it's awesome!!!!!
ed [email] said at 11:07 AM 03-09-2005:
I know, right!? I love the look of that camera, I must admit. But I guess I will be going with Hal's big brother, the Z3:

Not quite as cool-looking, but better features and cheaper means I'm gonna go with the more conventional-looking model, I'm thinkin'.
