hats off to those nifty boys!

Does anyone else love the Venture Bros as much as I do?!

cool technology + sexy maneuvers +socially inept characters + nefarious villains with low self-esteem = pure hilarity.

I think it's pretty funny. I've only seen like 2 episodes, but I liked them. It's a perversion of Johnny Quest on every level.
myriam said at 4:01 PM 12-15-2004:
you have good taste. i'd say... it's half "Johnny Quest" half "Scooby Doo", but with the self-deprecating humor of Family Guy.

hey have you seen Cowboy Bebop? a lot of the drawing and music reminds me of cowboy bebop--plus the intro. in one of the episodes i swear they ripped off this classic cowboy bebop image....

first ive heard of it. any show where they fight alligators is okay by me, though!

i need to send the dirtfarm a good compilation dvd of all the cable you guys miss out on. sheesh.
cecil said at 3:12 PM 12-15-2004:
I like it. It's better than the recent Sealab 2021s which have become crap.
myriam said at 3:57 PM 12-15-2004:
i seriously dig this show. the voice of the guy wrestling the croc is patrick warburton--"Putty" from Seinfeld--and the show is simply crazy. if you haven't seen it, check it out--if you truly don't like it i promise to give you a consolation hug, and if you do like it you get a kiss.
brandon said at 5:38 PM 12-15-2004:
The show is also over. The final episode was a few weeks ago. There's a Christmas episode on the way, but that'll be it.

In the episode, the monarch's inept minions finally killed the twins.

Dr. Girlfriend had departed for better pastures.

There was an evil twin plot... blah blah.

They're dropping it in favor of that crap, in-house, knock-off anime, and re-dubbed milk show, which are getting much better ratings, sadly.

The show was a victim of its own excellence. You had to pay attention to it to get the payoff.

Sealab, though, c'mon it's not all bad, for instance, the sealab episode when they go away to the island for a corporate group building exercise, it has everything: the league of men, the drunken Russian submarine captain from the ice-station 9 episode, chupacabra, snakes, debbie slutting it up, quetzalcoatl.

I also recently saw the Zack Wylde episode of ATHF. Holy shit. Geddy Lee's Jet is shaped like a bass guitar and has an owl painted on the front. They mortgage the house, and they don't even own it. And boxy. I fucking love boxy.
myriam said at 7:09 PM 12-15-2004:
Supposedly it's getting good ratings; i, however, only discovered it like a week ago, and have caught up via internet, which is precisely what i did with Home Movies (which was in fact doomed before many people even caught on to it). So, yes, I don't hold out much hope.

Shows I highly enjoy that have been cancelled in favor of more anime crap:

Family Guy (here's to dvd sales)
    Home Movies
    Invader Zim
    ...something else i'm forgetting...

      [benefit of the doubt]

You'd BEST tell me you don't watch The OC before you call ANY anime "crap".

If you can, I withdraw my aggro stance.

      [/benefit of the doubt]
myriam said at 7:28 PM 12-15-2004:
um, i don't watch the OC.

how could i watch the OC?! i'm from the OC.
myriam said at 7:30 PM 12-15-2004:
also, i have long been a pokemon fan, thank you, and i love cowboy bebop. also i used to really like sailor moon.

it's just that most anime that has been shown in the states lately SUCKS.

i like architecture but 99% of american homes are hideously ugly. to me, those are not "real" architecture. just like dragonball z is not "real" anime.

and i know you love that stupid show.
ed said at 7:47 PM 12-15-2004:
          Whoah, whoah.

If, by "that stupid show", you mean The OC, you've got the wrong dude, dudette. I'd rather watch a colonoscopy. A bloody one.

But I do give you props for Pokemon and Sailor Moon. I never "got" DBZ. "Cowboy Bebop" is/was cool. But nothing to crow about.

          Misty>May. Fo realz.
zack said at 9:17 PM 12-15-2004:
Yeah, the problem is they aren't showing the good shows and when something cool like One Piece comes over they stick it on saturday mornings on FOX BOX and probably edit it down to nothing.
myriam said at 7:32 PM 12-15-2004:
also, hello, invader zim is stylistically influenced by anime.
brandon said at 7:31 PM 12-15-2004:
They still show FG on adult swim, it's one of their staples, dude. I don't think that they ever showed IZ, which had it's moments. Like the organs episode. Holy shit. HM is still on sometimes. They rotate them out.

Production is already back on line/finished for FG, which never, never, never should have been cancelled in the first place.

What I really don't like is the high-concept, glossy stuff like "Wolf's Rain" and "Witch-Hunter Robin" with barely any action, stale writing, transparent revelations and just poorly paced in general. I mean, anime is not for everyone, and just because you like one doesn't at all mean you'll like another. Like, I liked the Lain series - but, as I said, I can't stand similar things mentioned above. I still love Akira, even though it's cheesy.

Worse is the 80's era, Voltron and whomever-those-guys-in-birdsuits styled anime like "Lupin" that comes on before the programming repeats itself around 2 am. It's excruciatingly awful.
myriam said at 7:43 PM 12-15-2004:
HM and FG were cancelled, as I said; they show in reruns. FG was brought back on Fox as a result of high dvd sales, to which I gave a nod in my post. IZ was on nick or something I dunno, it doesn't matter.

Akira rocks. Lupin makes me want to shoot myself.
brandon said at 8:27 PM 12-15-2004:
Why did you just repeat yourself and what I just said?

Here, let me repeat it one more time for good measure.

HM and FG were cancelled. FG is in the middle of producing another season for Fox, with more or less the same production team, after being cancelled.
Invader Zim isn't playing anywhere as far as I know, it ran on NICK.

I dare you to respond again. Say what again, motherfucker.
myriam said at 11:37 PM 12-15-2004:
i thought you didn't understand what i had written since you pointed stuff out to me that i had already said. jeez i sorta figured you were high...
zack said at 9:15 PM 12-15-2004:
Home Movies was on for a long time. I'd say it got pl,enty of chances to pull in an audience.

are they still playing that fucking Obblongs show? Mission Hill is still on for some reason.

And Sealab does seem to have had a lapse in quality, but I just can't watch it since the captain died anyhow.

I don't have free cable anymore, so this is all academic to me anyhow.
abby said at 11:42 AM 12-16-2004:
        oh man, home movies.

the oblongs is now on tbs or something like that which is one step closer to not being on at all, ever again, ever, which is GREAT. that show was grotesquely poor.

adult swim still dutifully shows one of the uh, seven? episodes of mission hill every sunday. how can a show that looks so alright and that deals with a drunk cartoonist and his mmorpging bro be so uncomfortably bad?

sealab is going the way of the simpsons, attempting to fool us into believeing we just watched something very smart and edgey through non-linear ridiculousness.

Also, I feel like the only person in the world that laughs at Harvey Birdman.

Invader Zim and Aeon Flux are my two favorite animated series of all time.
abby said at 11:32 AM 12-16-2004:
something about this show makes it impossible for me to pay attention to it for more than five minutes. some of the voice acting is pretty funny, but altogether the story is stale and the writing isn't absurd enough for it to be funny (to me). also, i find the sexuality horribly gross.
abby said at 11:42 AM 12-16-2004:
