So I decided to go to San Fran on Friday at 6 AM, then leave Saturday night at 11:30 PM.
I just need to get out of DC for a weekend.
I've been doing a lot of stuff spur of the moment lately.
I will be wandering around from about 10 AM to 6 PM when I arrive.
I am going to buy maps, etc, but I would just like to hear from people who live there (or go there, or used to live there, etc) some cool things to do, to see, and to eat. Like cool stores, cool bars, etc. I'm going to be there such a short time i really want to have a few solid things planned out.
arnie [email] said at 2:05 PM 09-13-2004: Do you want to do touristy stuff? If so, I work at a restaraunt in the heart of touristville on friday days. I can hook it up for half price if you are gonna be there.
Michael [ url ] said at 2:24 PM 09-13-2004: They make shrimp kabobs, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich... thats about it. Then you can go out and look at the sea lions.
marcia [email] said at 2:47 PM 09-13-2004: yeah, i would totally come to your restaurant and eat there. just give me the name and address and i'll show up in the afternoon. woo hoo! meeting other killoggers!
rick [email] said at 2:30 PM 09-13-2004: I liked hiking up on top of the hills overlooking the city. And then getting a burrito in the Mission district.
kevin [email] said at 4:00 PM 09-13-2004: i went to ameoba in LA. an amazing store. i was blown away that they had almost every cd they sell available at their mp3 listening stations. you could listen to entire songs before you buy. such a great idea. and very low maintenance for the store employees once the soundfiles are loaded.
arnie [email] said at 3:45 PM 09-13-2004: In the lower Haight go to Upper Playground for some cool stuff you can't find anywhere else. Haight Asbury area there is a cool shop similar to Upper Playground called Red Five. There is also Kid Robot, a fun toy store.
Clothing wise, I find the Haight to be pricey, especially for used clothing. If you are doing some thrift store shopping, I can point you to some much better places.
Food wise, try Escape From New York Pizza, they have a really good one with potatos and garlic, yum! There are also good crepe places there, but I forgot the name.
courtney [email] said at 8:00 PM 09-13-2004: Ben and I went to the Goodwill on Haight and it was pretty decent. Also, there are good places in the Mission for thrifting.
courtney [email] said at 1:56 AM 09-14-2004: we also went to this place called "vintage by the pound" I think, where you can buy clothes by weight. It was bordering on pricey though. Ben, help me on this one?
pokey [email] said at 9:26 PM 09-17-2004: If you are in the Mission, eat at Pancho Villa on 16th. Good Vibrations is near there, too, and the Mission is just a step from Castro, which has a GREAT diner for breakfast called Orphan Andy's. Hot n Hunky in the Castro has good hotdogs n burgers, and if you eat on Haight, get shawarma from Simply Mediterranean (I would, if I could :( )
pokey [email] said at 9:32 PM 09-17-2004: Er, I mean Truely Mediterranean. And it looks like they aren't on Haight anymore, but there is one on 16th, in the Mission (almost in Castro) as well. If it was possible to mail it, I would pay you for a chicken shawarma from there.
brad [email] said at 1:54 AM 09-14-2004: Yeah, if you wanna shop for clothes, Haight is the place to be. And Amoeba Records (it's huge) is also on Haight Street. You should also check out Golden Gate Park while you're in that area.
courtney [email] said at 8:02 PM 09-13-2004: Well, it's changeable here. We can have a very warm day (80-90's even), and a very cool night (in the low 60's) on the same day. Wear layers!
We seem to be past our early indian summer, but be prepared for either sweltering temps or cold windy foggy days. There are many many microclimates in SF itself.
marcia [email] said at 8:24 PM 09-13-2004: well, i'm all abou layers, so none of that should be a problem. i will really only need like two shirts and a pair of socks and undies. it's so weird to be traveling thousands of miles within 2 days' time. I'll bring a hoodie, too.
Keczar said at 8:48 AM 09-14-2004: Not really. There's just an insane amount of sushi places, and I was a little shocked by how popular it was when I first went to 'frisco.
marcia [email] said at 3:30 PM 09-14-2004: ben told me a bunch of people to call/contact...loren was one of them. i'm going to be there such a short time...but it would be cool to meet some people i've always heard about....
