I wonder how many Target shoppers will take advantage of the convenient button to click & add this item to their Baby Registries.
ed [email] said at 10:33 AM 07-29-2004:
So... wait. It's a piece of red string.

For twenty-six dollars. Whoah.
julie [email] said at 11:01 AM 07-29-2004:
But Ed, that string is special! It has traveled to the holy land! No one in their right mind would confuse it with a $1.99 skein of red embroidery floss from the fabric store.
meredith [email] said at 11:17 AM 07-29-2004:
Marie Claire actually did an article on this piece of red string and Madonna's whole thing with it.

somehow i envision a giant diesel-spewing Target truck driving up to the 'ancient tomb of Rachael', the belching driver hopping out to take a leak then driving off, mission accomplished.

Speaking of a bracelet trend, you know what I wish would make a comeback? Those metal strip bracelets that you slapped on your wrist and they curled around it. Like, 8-inch strips cut from a wide metal measuring tape, and then covered in, like, neon green fabric. What were they called? Those things were awesome.
meredith [email] said at 11:23 AM 07-29-2004:
Oh my God! Slap Braclets! Someone was talking about them the other day! They would TOTALLY make a comback!

Just perhaps not in the florescent colors of the 80s.
kara [email] said at 12:10 PM 07-29-2004:
they already did make a comeback.. at least around here...
we had a lot of them two years or so ago.
they were plastic not metal now though
julie [email] said at 12:13 PM 07-29-2004:
Plastic now? That makes sense. I remember the edges being kind of sharp if you were unlucky enough to have your neon green fabric fray at the corners.
julie [email] said at 12:14 PM 07-29-2004:
Why did I now know about this comeback?

Was it covered in Marie Claire?
reggie [email] said at 11:45 AM 07-29-2004:
I'm in the wrong goldurn business. All along I coulda been selling red string for 26 bucks. HA! I'll undercut them and sell it for 13 bucks! Thanks for the idea Tom Green!
julie [email] said at 11:52 AM 07-29-2004:
I guess this whole thing is really no different than Target selling cross necklaces, so I'm not sure why I even care. Except that it's so... retarded.
reggie [email] said at 12:00 PM 07-29-2004:
    Bingo!
ed [email] said at 12:04 PM 07-29-2004:
Some sort, whether it be minimal for the simple ones or more for the detailed ones, of effort goes into making cross necklaces. These are... red string.

Yes they are both symbols of belief systems, but 26 dollars for string is just... retardulous.
myriam [email] said at 12:15 PM 07-29-2004:
yeah but the value of the cross doesn't rely on a fabricated trip to someplace else, a la J. Peterman. they sell the cross as an icon, people buy it because they want an icon--Target doesn't try to make it out to be anything more than that. The stupid story about the blessed trip is what makes this retarded.
abby [email] said at 2:01 PM 07-29-2004:
this is grossing me out. everyone knows that jewish mysticism was invented in 1996 by US weekly and offers you no kind of spiritual bargaining in the afterlife. it is a bigger joke than kwanzaa.

at least with the slap bracelet there is some kindof physical penance. godliness and spirituality should, at the very least, redden the skin.
