Modest Mouse

I saw Modest Mouse play at the Warfield here in SF on Saturday night.
I have to say it was one of the best shows I have seen in a very, very long time.
I am not the biggest fan of thier new album, but they are an incredibly tight live band, and they put on an amazing show.
To those of you who live in one of the cities they are playing in, I highly recommend checking them out.
Hopefully, you won't have some jackass drunk and on E behind you(like I did) yelling "play 'Doin' the Cockroach'", or "Woohoo, that solo kicked as much ass as Stone Cold Steve Austin does on a good night".
He made me wish I carried a tranquilizer gun with me at all times.

You have to admit the Stone Cold Steve Austin remark was a nice touch though.

When I saw them they were dressed like hicks and talking in an inside-joke accent. I recommend seeing the Moving Units play.

a couple of years back i saw modest mouse, the shins (i bought their cd-r demo off of teh band.. haha), and black heart procession play at a wedding hall kind of place in dundalk bmore. now they be indie rock superstars these days, with their imho most boring record breaking them throught to suburbia. yay!

though if modest mouse can have a pop hit, i guess there's no reason built to spill can't have one as well. that would be rad. tangent. yeah.

I agree that the new album is pretty weak, but their older stuff still sounds great live.
However, I did feel like I was walking into an Abercrombie and Fitch outlet mall when I showed up at the Warfield.

hahah...i'm happy they have a hit. the moon and antartica was a fave, so i guess i had higher hopes for the
    latest record.

do they have two guitar players these days when playing live these days?
myriam [email] said at 3:09 PM 07-19-2004:
it sounds like they have banjo or something in some of their songs... is that just a second guitar?
nelson. said at 6:09 PM 07-19-2004:
They do use a banjo in some of their songs.

i am a big fan of modest mouse but i always heard they sucked live so i never took the chance to go see them when they came to town. usually the day after, i always asked if the show was any good and everyone always said they sucked live. it sucks that you say they sound good and ticket prices are like 20 or 30 bucks now, because im not going to pay that to go see a band that sounds good now but sounded like crap when the tickets were only 10 bucks. psh... stupid modest mouse aint even modest anymore. they should be expensive popular now we have a good live show mouse.
