the worst booking email I have ever gotten.

Being let down, Razor Blades, Getting your hearts break, Bloody corpuses, Your thing? Ours Too. We are a dark punk-metal band, if people tried to fit us into one of the million categories of music these days. We play music for the fans, for the kids who drive a hour from out of the city to see you play, the kids who have ever heard a single cord or lyric of yours but still come out to your show. We love playing anywhere and I mean anywhere, basement, house, club, picnic, whatever. We all grown up listen to the local and region music that we love, we all go to the shitty shows just to show there are scene of music out there. Our name is (name that makes a reference to the Matrix movies) and in this email there will be our web link, MP3s, Bio and dates we would love to play for your scene of kids. I hope you enjoy…

The dates needed are very very far away; I am making sure your address that I have is correct to send a demo your way. If a demo is not needed, please tell me so we don’t have to waste money.

You address is:

Charm City Art Space C/O ????
1729 Maryland Avenue
Baltimore, MD 21201
Phone: ??????????

And the date needed will be:
February 8th, 2005

Like I said I know this is very far ahead but Just tell me what date to get back with you and if you want a demo. That date I will send you a demo and email you back…

Bio:

To know all there is to know about (name that makes a reference to the Matrix movies) you have to start years ago with the begin of (vaguely emo name). (name that makes a reference to the Matrix movies) is made up of members from (vaguely emo name). So the story begins….

(vaguely emo name) in the beginning went through a series of member changes but every time this happen the sound of the band got better and more what the band was going for. To go through the entire member changes would be boring and you would hate us every before listen to us, so we wouldn’t go that direction. Just know there were a couple changes of the line-up over the past years. What is important was that during the time of members being _____, ______ and ________, had some of their best tours and shows. They toured the United States and made 100s of fans and friends in a two-year period.

They have records a number of demos over the 4-year career that’s been (vaguely emo name). Most recently the members coincided of ______, ______, and on bass __. During this time __ was felt he needed to grow up and be an adult.

So incomes long time friend and old bass player to save the day, ______. Sense this they have dropped all the old (vaguely emo name) material and began writing new and better material. They came to the discussion that the old name and style wasn’t going to cut it any longer. The birth of there new name (name that makes a reference to the Matrix movies), so this winter sure to be on the look for a new record and tour coming to a city near you.
The End

Names and vital info changed to protect the innocent.

If you are in a band - DON'T send promoters emails like this! Don't send a email this long, don't send MP3s that don't work, don't try to get a show 10 months in advance, don't send MP3s that are outdated and tell me new ones are coming, etc, etc, etc...

My response:
That date is way way to far away for me to even consider booking it. I'm just now booking my August shows. 4 months or so is the normal timeframe. 10 months is waaaaaaay too far in the future.

Send a demo to the space, someone will check it out.

And, not trying to be a dick, but have someone edit your emails for spelling/grammar - you will get a better response if your email is easily readable, the one you sent me is hard to read in places because of the odd grammar.

Also - I would consider shorter to be better. Shrink your email into a few smaller paragraphs and I think you will get a better response. Promoters have a LOT of emails to read and they will just skim a long one anyway.

Hope this helps,
Josh
I think that was pretty un-dick-ish, right?

Yes, it was un-dickish. It was good of you to take your time to try to help them out. Hopefully they take your advice, it might be the first time they got some.

Why do you hate dark punk-metal bands, Dick?

milky [email] said at 10:37 AM 04-29-2004:
No. You said you weren't trying to be a dick and if someone can't take that on face value, that's a problem. You were honest and upfront and you had constructive, useful suggestions.

But that's like you saying "I'm not gay at all, but man I'd really love to nail Brad Pitt"

Why do they think anyone would be interested in a bio like that? Sounds like every single band in the universe. Well I *think* it sounds like every single band in the universe... hard to say, really...

Josh, will you never learn your lesson?
Every time you act like a dick and ask about it on Killoggs, somebody quits.
How many more will leave before you learn this painful lesson, dick?

I'm not trying to be a dick here, but saying this:
That date is way way to far away for me to even consider booking it followed by this:
have someone edit your emails for spelling/grammar made me laugh. To damn funny.
josh [email] said at 11:55 AM 04-29-2004:
The difference being, I fired that email off in like 30 seconds, and I'm not asking them for anything, and I sent it just to them.

They obviously spent a long time writing that, they sent it to probably 200-300 people (assumming they are trying to book a nationwide tour), and they want me to devote my time and possibly money to their show/band.
ed [email] said at 3:04 PM 04-29-2004:
I was, uh... just joshin' ya. :)

        I WAS JUST ED-ITING YOU!
ed [email] said at 3:28 PM 04-29-2004:
One of the guys here calls me "Edit". Cause I'm Ed, and I'm in IT. Get it? HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!1!! It's okay. I call him "Big Toe."
jake... said at 6:28 PM 04-29-2004:
you oughta call him "toe tag," cuz you oughta kill that fool for disrespecting you.
Let him slide on the nickname today, and tomorrow he'll be "borrowing" your red stapler.

you should definitely book this band.

please send me their name and a link to some of their working mp3s.
dave said at 2:32 PM 04-29-2004:
if you have to ask if you're being a dick, i'd say that deep down you partially felt that your email was dick-ish. on the other hand, you could have said "hahahahha 10 months in advance. good luck with that shitty name ya hacks" which would have been clearly dick-ish.

Josh, have lots of people called you a dick? You seem to have your manners under tight surveillance, lately.
