Travel advice

Tyler and I want to take a week-two week vacation this summer. We have around $1000-$1200 maximum to spend on said vacation. We would prefer something exotic and not in the U.S., but we would settle for a place that is in the U.S., warm, and by the ocean. The travel will most likely occur in June-July-early August.

We never got the chance to take a proper honeymoon. Our honeymoon consisted of driving in 6 hour shifts along with our best man for about 40 hours, straight back from Vegas, with each "spent" driver occasionally drinking a shitload of gin until he or she could pass out for a few hours and sleep with the Punk Rock Duck in the backseat. We would like to finally take a decent honeymoon.

So, what is your advice, Killoggs? Cruise? Hotel? Where are the nice places you have traveled, and why did you find them so appealing? Do any of you have beachfront property?

Advice, people! I demand advice!

Go to New Orleans or Mississippi. They are both warm and by the ocean and are cheap. Haahahahhahhahaha :)
Why don't you go to Disneyworld? Even if you don't want to romp around Space Mountain, there area lot of "adult" activities at DW.

One piece of advice: Priceline. I have been using that for everything. I helped my friend get a great hotel in San Diego for $80 a night. The hotel's regular rate is $200. It looks like you can get pretty good deals on flights too.

Iceland - I know it sounds freaky but its a weird, beautiful place and its not cold at all. The people are friendly, outgoing and they drink a lot (a lot lot) and there is a great night scene. Lots of thermal springs and great fishing!

Iceland Air has great vacation package deals

Iceland is a nice land(!) but I really enjoy South Africa. It would be the southern-hemisphere winter of course but that would just mean that Durban was hot instead of HOT! The animals are amazing on safari and there is a beach for every purpose. Oh, and the wine they make is really good and cheap, in fact everything there is cheap.

you should check out expedia package deals too. when my girlfriend and i went to seattle we saved mucho dinero by getting a hotel along with our flight. seperately the costs were almost double what we payed for the package. the mississippi/alabama coast has some very nice, inexpensive spots. but it also has some spots that have earned it the nickname "redneck riviera".

I second this. Pensecola is nice. You gotta book beach hotels way early tho. I like the Five Flags Inn myself.

san diego has the best weather in california. plus it's right next to tj so you can cross the border and party over there too.

Mexico. It's more bang for your buck--the exchange rate is one of the most favorable of all the destinations close to the U.S. You can get a plane ticket for cheap and you'll definitely spend much less than if you stay anywhere in the U.S. I would recommend going to beach towns either on the Yucatan Peninsula or on the Pacific side (especially Puerto Vallarta- not Acapulco). I wouldn't stay in Cancun, though, because it's mostly very touristy and expensive. Going to Mexico would allow you to experience something different for a week. If you go to the Yucatan side you can also visit the Mayan ruins close to the coast which are amazing.

I was going to recommend Mexico City. I can't really, though, because I haven't been there, but I have a few close friends who keep going and KEEP telling me how amazing it is. And it really does sound amazing. And now I really want to go.

It's most likely out of your budget (I wouldn't know, since the time we went there, I was completely out of the "how much things cost" loop), but this is the second-best vacation spot EVAR. The first-best, of course, is in the Blue Ridge mountains, and thus does not meet your criteria.

If you do go to Compass Point, make sure you get "West Point". It's the most remote cabin, and has so little buildup around it that you almost feel as if the Bahamas are your private islands, as longas you don't venture outside.

SO worth it.

SO incredible.

/good times, good times.
