Joining The Revolution

Yesterday it occurred to me for some reason that I can collect mp3s on my computer here at work.
I stayed late and gathered some quality non-offensive indie rock... trying to relive the glory days of other DJs shows on WMUC.
I got some from insound.com (and Chris X if you are reading this why don't you send them some of yours? You could hype The Means up to that crowd, you know), 4AD, and Matador Records.
Any other suggestions as to where I can find more stuff like this to add to my "radio," would be appreciated... I'm listening to a lot of stuff that I normally wouldn't, so I can keep up with the times. After a few months of re-submerging into current music trends, I'm going to try to re-submerge into magazine writing...

Thanks for the post Kara... I've been looking for a lazy way to attempt to remain hip... you did the leg work now all I have to do is download and enjoy.

Did you have trouble with any of the links?

    trouble?

      I got it covered now.

Apparently you can only download 2 songs at a time and need to wait a minute or so before trying to download two more.

I'll have all the songs in about 3 minutes though!

Ah I only do like one at a time...
that way I can listen to it and if its too loud or obnoxious, not keep it

i would not do this if i were you. you are taking up space on your company's mainframe with mp3s. if they find out they may fire you.

eh... doubtful. theyre on my comp... if it becomes a problem I can put them on CD but I know a lot of people use internet radio or itunes.

If you're looking for a good internet radio station, wfmu.org is the place to go. WFMU rocks.

pitchfork I like Epitonic.com too.
myriam said at 10:40 AM 04-08-2004:
heavy.com used to have all kinds of free mp3s, from a wide range of genres, but now it's mostly subscriber-only and hip-hop-oriented. they still have a really good blog, though, with great links and news about all kinds of indie bands.

This operation has been underway for approximately one day, and I've come to the conclusion that there is a lot of awful music, just as bad as I remembered

Get lots of Morphine.
kara [email] said at 1:29 PM 04-12-2004:
I also just discovered I can store these on CDs which is kinda rad so i don't have to take up space on the comp.
I have discovered many things that suck.
Notes:
The Faint are good background work music. This is embarassing.
Same goes for Superchunk
This chick Anjali is ... interesting?
The Rachels are consistently pretty good since the last CDs I bought.
I need to check out the more recent Black Heart Procession stuff. Some good some bad.
Boobytrap is horrible. Sorry dudette. Horrible.
Apples In Stereo - why does anyone listen to this?
Death Cab For Cutie - Uninteresting
