I just realized the kissing thing is not really a good comparison and makes me sound like an emo fag.

No, it just sounds like a dentene ice commercial, and that's not bad.

No, actually the only films that do that are ones that have a very striking visual element like "The Thin Red Line" or "Natural Born Killers."

Critters II was so predictible. I really think of "Dude, Where's My Car?" as a prelude to "Dude, WHere's My Car, Again?" which I don't think I can fully prepare myself for.

      You nitpick.

Besides, what do you define as the 3? Reservoir Dogs, True Romance and Pulp Fiction? There are more to consider. Not just Tarantino directed films, but writing, producing, and/or directing.
zack [email] said at 6:09 AM 10-12-2003:
if you deny randy the right to nitpick, you deny him the right to breathe. We were talking about this earlier. His 3 official movies are RD, PF, and JB, but True Romance, Dusk Till dawn, and others(?) are also eligible for TARANTINO-NESS.i think Tarantino's writing is the biggest consideration.

oops, yeah, meant JB as opposed to True Romance.

But yeah, Zack gets the point.

Anything with Tarantino involved has so far been a winner. Even movies that he was involved in releasing (or re-releasing) like Chun King Express... or produced, like Killing Zoe.

Sorry, I was just in a smart-ass mood when I wrote that. Yeah, I don't count True Romance, since he only wrote it, and From Dusk Till Dawn I guess I should've counted, since it seemed to be equally collaborative. 4 Rooms I don't count since his part was so short and really not very good.

It was pretty mindless and boring. I liked it better than Cabin Fever.
Bendependent [email] said at 4:51 AM 10-11-2003:
Kill Bill is god awful.

The soundtrack is pretty good though, especially the Nancy Sinatra "bang bang, my baby shot me down" song in the opening credits. I don't know why I've never heard that song before.

I really don't like Anime. Or extensive mindless violence with no plot to back it up. Or choreographed fighting with no gravity or physics.

This was about like watching Charlie's Angels 2 with tremelo and reverb. And a lot of close up shots like Tarantino likes to do so it will appear to have some sort of style.

Charlie's Angel's 2, I think, was actually funnier though cos it was at least totally ridiculous. And it had an ending.

This whole splitting up movies into sections trend is gonna get really annoying.

People really seem to like blood and guts and ninjas.

People sure do like ninjas.

There were people attacking each other with imaginary swords on the way out of the theater just like people leaving Star Wars.

People sure do seem to wish they could really hit each other with swords. Swords are so cool. They're like totally what ninjas use to kill people.

And ninjas are totally sweet.

Uma Thurman has really big fucking hands. That's really all I cared to look at after about 30 minutes of this movie.

Big big hands.

So if I have to say something nice instead of being quiet, I'll leave it at:

Ninjas, Big Hands, Nancy Sinatra.

Kill Bill clearly has a pretty thin story. Revenge. Revenge. Revenge. The Bride is an unrelenting force. Still, I didn't miss something more because I was so enthralled by the kung fun theatre comic book brought to life in front of me that I didn't care.

I think that what this has that lesser action flicks lack is that Tarentino has a love for his inspiration and a flair for bringing it out without making it seem like you've seen it 100 times before.

I love that his characters are larger than life. They are superhuman without physical or moral limits, yet despite that, still have the same base human desires. Hate. Lust. Greed. Shame. Things many action heroes lack. They live in a universe where a woman can survive a bullet to the head. Where a coma patient can kill two rapists and drive off within hours of awakening. I think some of the things like that help put all the unbelievable martial arts in perspective. I loved the pictures of mythic Suburbia and Tokyo (esp. in contrast to the reality represented in Lost in Translation).
In this world, you know that The Bride will not (at least not in this edition) be stopped, but where Tarentino succeeds (and where the masters that served as his inspiration succeeded) is that at least for a second (fleeting differently depending on how much your belief has been suspended) he makes us think they just might meet their end at any number of moments (even though we know Batman, Bond, & the Bride will still be here next week, month, year, etc.)

I'm not a big anime fan, but I liked the way it was used here. If you're going to have a flashback, why not do something different. And there's something about the way the horrifying acts depicted are represented, that I'm not sure would have been the same in live action.

The soundtrack was stellar. Nancy Sinatra did really set the scene well and every other place the music flows perfectly with the action.

Sure, the violence was completely absurd, but I think all the spurting and gore just spoke to the lengths that The Bride is willing to go and more importantly how will someone that driven change once she finds out the secret hidden from her.

I think a certain amount of my enjoyment of this was probably nostalgia. I saw Pulp Fiction somewhere around 200 times. Still, I can see how it wouldn't be some people's cup o' tea.

And I love The Three Amigos. So take my movie opinions based on that.

Just saw it. I felt like the script was pretty weak, for Tarantino. As always, for me, Lucy steals the show, though Uma was fabulous, as well. The animation sequence surprised me, but lended to the whole comic book feel of the film, which is pretty much all the film has going for it. However, I am a comic enthusiest, so, as with other recent action films such as Charlie's Angels, Kill Bill entertains, which is really all I expect from films like these. If I was looking for intrigue, I would go see soemthing else. My only real gripe is the lack of wit which other Tarantino films have in abundance. If there were any attepts at it, I really didn't notice. The triteness of the dialogue paired with the visual nature of the film (I don't think I will ever tire of spurting, spraying blood) made it difficult to care about lines which weren't directly related to the narrative. The dialogue I enjoyed most was the conversation in the sushi shop, which, in a way, makes sense, since it was pointedly small talk, unlike the small talk that is every other line in the film. I feel like the dialogue could have been trimmed drastically, and the movie would have been stronger for it, afterall, actions, especially such stimulating action, speaks louder than words. The RZA did an amazing job, which I noted to myself as I wondered about whether or not the soundtrack is available, yet, for purchase.
milky [email] said at 9:51 PM 10-11-2003:

Yeah, I'm curious about that as well. To get the RZA score complete of 'Ghost Dog,' one has to buy the Japanese import (on my to do list).

It was a blast, visually. After "Jackie Brown," I didn't expect much out of QT. I didn't have huge expectations, so I had a really good time.

Seeing a woman get revenge (knee blasts, heel slashes) proper, well, it's a beautiful thing. My fiance really dug the movie...I was worried she'd accuse me of dragging her to it, but I was surprised again.

Windmills with dual swords, chopping at the ankle...wow.

The triteness of dialogue? Reminded me of Clint Eastwood westerns, Leone. It worked.
zack [email] said at 10:22 PM 10-11-2003:
the dialogue was also very much influenced by samurai films of yore, from the very first battle with vivica fox.
zack [email] said at 10:23 PM 10-11-2003:
And Jackie Brown is a terribly underrated movie. QT sublimates a lot of his stylistic flourishes to focus on characters.

I thought Kill Bill was pretty cool but the thing that sticks out in my mind was the scene (and I don't think this is much of a spoiler) where you hear the Bride's victims moaning in the background as she hunts down O-Ren. That's something that no other filmmaker would even think to include. I need to see this movie a couple more times before I can figure out exactly how I feel about it. I mean, I did enjoy it but I wasn't really blown away by it. I miss QT's dialogue like crazy. Speaking of sounds, I also liked when you hear all 88 motorcycles pull up outside the restaurant.

One question, I was lead to believe there was s'posed to be some kind of post-credit preview or something but after me and about half the audience sat through the credits we were greeted with...nothing. Anyone?
linus [email] said at 11:59 PM 10-11-2003:
I think some of the critic previews had the last few minutes w/ sophie where Bill reveals the "big secret" after the credits. I think they prob. moved it before cause people don't have patience to wait through the credits.

Dear Mister Tarantino-
You have used all the fake blood on earth after this one. There is no more fake blood to use. You took it all for your film.
