Randy [ url ] said at 3:16 PM 08-19-2003: Dude, something CRAZY weird is going on right now...
I have like 20 messages in my inbox from various people, all with attachments. What's weird is that several of the people are Killoggs people (Baby Duck and Michael@Knighten.net are the only 2 I recognize). Some are from people on various Yahoo Groups I belong to.
I'm not gonna' open them, cuz I know they're viruses, but... how'd that happen?
It's like on-line armageddon or something.
Damn. |

Apparently, it's on the intranet here at work or something. Bizarre. I wonder if I'm the one who contracted it here. That would suck. No more webmail for me, if that's the case... |
 | josh [email] said at 3:50 PM 08-19-2003: Ha, that's nothing. My work account has recieved, at last count, 950 spams TODAY.
All because a coworker CC'd me on something she mailed out to someone off campus... Someone who has a virus of some kind on their machine.
Our mail maestro guy is apparently going to block it off, but no dice yet it seems as I just got 10 spams in the time it took to write this. |
Randy [ url ] said at 3:53 PM 08-19-2003: I think our e-mail server here is blocking the spam, because I haven't gotten any at my work address. And I can hear all the IT guys here going crazy scrambling to figure something out. |
Shell said at 5:59 PM 08-19-2003: Checked the address I use here at Killoggs and had 41 new spam messages with huge attachments. Also had a message from the AP telling me a virus had been detected in a message "I" authored. |
strepbrandon said at 6:05 PM 08-19-2003: Symantec just named it. It's a variant of the Sobig(?) worm. Same deal as that last one, grabs your contacts from outlook, sets up an smtp server, and starts propagating itself. Someone at work got it onto our alumni listserv and professor listservs, and the older Professors had no clue, viola, a bazillion emails begging us to look at this wicked screensaver, or informing us that the mail we sent to the faa.gov has failed, open the attachment for more details. so annoying. |
 | josh [email] said at 6:13 PM 08-19-2003: They fixed it right before I left wor, thank god. |
 | milky [email] said at 8:23 PM 08-19-2003: Christ, my e-mail got hit with a shitbomb of stuff. |
 | ed [email] said at 9:49 PM 08-19-2003: I haven't checked my various web-based accounts, but I've been fortunate thus far in avoiding a slew of these bad boys. |
anotherben.. said at 10:21 PM 08-19-2003: strangely, i got less than 1o or so spams today.. a new low by far. |
Bob [ url ] said at 6:43 PM 08-20-2003: I've gotten something like a hundred of the bastards in the last 12 hours or so... I blame Killoggs. |
Emmaleigh said at 4:38 PM 08-21-2003: great, now I'm getting them. grrrr. but on the bright side, I'm getting email. | |
