I just downloaded every episode of "Clone High." I've only seen like 3 actual episodes but the ones I have cracked me up. I love the A.D.D. Gandhi clone and the disaffected goth-y insecure Joan of Arc clone. And the Ghengis Khan clone with the "Free Tibet" T-shirt.
linus [email] said at 12:45 PM 06-20-2003: It was on MTV, till some of Gandhi's relatives got pissed or something. Or maybe MTV realized it had a great show in the tradition of Liquid Television rather than another real world spinoff and they yanked it. I don't know if they're making anymore beyond the first 13 but the creators supposedly are developing other stuff.

Speaking of TV shows, STRANGERS WITH CANDY the first season is coming out on DVD - which means that I'm finally going to get a DVD player as I said I would. Woohoo
linus [email] said at 12:46 PM 06-20-2003: Big WOO-HOO! I heard they're actually making a Strangers feature film, but I bet it ends up wherever "Run Ronnie Run" is stashed.

Clone High was one of those shows you see that makes you go, "Hey, this actually isn't that bad." Then you remember it's on what's still called MUSIC television, and despite quality, they're still doing completely the opposite of what they should be doing.
I don't know about Strangers with Candy, but how about a sequel to Brain Candy? We need another Kids in the Hall movie.

The State, MTV comic genius; Hot Wet American summer - utter fucking crap.
MTV has not played videos for over almost a decade now. So bemoaning that is like bemoaning New Coke. As a matter of fact one of their marketing execs spoke a few years back about longterm strategy and keeping the MTV brand mostly because of, well, branding and name-recognition. Because the core-mission of the division isn't really concerned with selling music culture anymore, it sells pop/crap culture.
Family Guy was funny when the Simpsons started their long-arched swan dive, then it got cut because in its first season it couldn't pull numbers the Simpsons took 5 years to cultivate. It's very funny stuff. Comparing it to King of the Hill, how can you even make that comparison?
ex-Geoff said at 2:42 AM 06-21-2003: MTV also knows that they will always have a good core audience. A good percentage of young adults have been weened on it. Hell they announced a year or so ago that they were cutting their music run to feature only major artists (search the Salon.com archives).
I agree 100% with you, Brandon as always. MTV just panders to the drooling masses (ie the TKE fraternity) who will watch endless hours of Cribs and Fraternity Life because they feel it is something wonderful.
If anything Family Guy is worth buying mainly for the commentary. It's one of the best commentaries i've listened to since Donnie Darko.

Forget honesty
Forget creativity
The dumbest buy the mostest
That's the name of the game."
