Grand Prix Macho Madness

Yuck. I wish I'd had a bazooka to insure my safe passage through the hordes of testosterone-overloaded male specimens crowding downtown Montreal today. Let's just say that the tourists attracted by the Grand Prix are not quite the same as those attracted by the International Jazz Festival. Think Mardi Gras crowds carrying beer-filled coolers, but comprised mostly of 30+ year-old men of the car-worshipping persuasion, and a few carshow bimbos. Actually, the European tourists were not as bad as the local "Longueuils" (the Québécois translation of mullet-people) and attracted by the event.

Even I, dressed in my pinstripe floods, 3-inch belt, distressed jean jacket, and ankle boots, with my pommade-greasy messy short hair, managed to get hit on a record number of times making my way home from class. And trust me, I am not their type. The yellow subway line to Longueuil was particularly horrendous.

The same way I used to flee LSU campus during football games, I will stay away from downtown this weekend.

Fuck me if I'm an elitist.

LSU was fucking awful on game days. Goddamn I hate football.

Thank you!

...The stench of BBQ, the unbearably loud marching band, the helicopters buzzing overhead, the sportscasters that you could hear perfectly well all the way back in your Pentagon room, the drunken fratboys, the crowd effect (i.e. mass stupidity) ...it was all too much for me.

You have forgotten the litter, the streets choked with automobiles, the LAWNS choked with automobiles, the Confederate Battle Flags, the people in the Student Union asking you where the restrooms are while standing in front of the door to the restrooms and of course, that "hospitality" recording that was put on repeat and blared on the speakers in the Union.

My favorite were the people who would drive in golf carts from the stadium to the Student Union instead of using those apparently useless legs that were still attached to their bodies.

But it's true about the cars parked on the lawn - I saw loads of cars parked on that little strech of lawn that divides the highway, all the way to Longueuil subway station.

Actually, I meant on the lawns of the campus, around the dormitories, ON THE TREE ROOTS OF THE "BELOVED" OLD WHITE OAKS.

I know what you meant, I was just pointing out that I observed the same phenomena at the Grand Prix.
gen [email] said at 10:34 AM 06-08-2002:
Wow. I don't think I ever ventured as far as the Student Union on game day. I either holed myself up in my Pentagon room, or I took the bus to some mall or something.

Madame, I used to work at the Student Union on game days. In the Student Union, noone can hear you scream.

You worked in the Union? Where?

I worked at the Union Ticketmaster, but it was always closed on weekends.

I did though work at the Student Union back in 1996 though I shall not disclose the nature of the work I was doing.

I think I remember seeing you a lot at the Union because for some reason I thought you looked a lot like a girl I went to high school with and carpooled with on occasion.

Now I'm really curious. Tell me!
What did you do? Where did you work at the Union?
milky [email] said at 5:36 PM 06-08-2002:
You had to get provisions and hole up early, no matter where you lived. It truly sucked, and working for KLSU made it worse.

Brad and I bonded when we got stuck outside of campus getting a pizza on game day.

Did you get stuck because of traffic? One of the best feelings I used to have was zipping on my bicycle past everyone stuck in their automobiles.

Yeah. I don't remember who drove, but I remember eating pizza on a curb and talking about Operation Ivy.

For the record, I thought Operation Ivy was rather entertaining.
