do you feel like darth vader?

first things first, i just got through reading an awesome book.

other than that, it's good friday which means that jesus will be dead from about 3:30 pm today 'til about 9 am sunday which means we can do whatever we want without getting in trouble in the meantime.

this sort of reminds me of the time a friend of mine who was a biological engineering major showed me a letter he'd gotten from his mother who was an evangelical christian (yes, he was rebelling). nonchalantly in her letter she made a reference to being "washed in the blood of jesus christ from head to toe". now i'm agnostic and all; but that was pretty freaky, like something you'd read in an eighteenth century book about someone who'd read one of the apocrypha and gone insane. damn, it gave me some ideas though... are there any girls out there who'd like to bathe in lambs blood?

typing like a madman,

-kiche

I am also agnostic. But my relatives are a bunch of god fearing catholics. Every Easter they invite me to attend church with them and my parents still ask me at Easter dinner if I have been to Easter mass yet and when do I plan on going, etc. I usually lie and tell them that I have to work or something. If I told them that I no longer believed in that crap, that Catholic school had failed to brainwash me, then I would surely be written out of the will.

i don't mind going to mass for easter (although i won't tomorrow, most likely) or christmas (especially midnight mass, that's actually cool). it's that whenever i go to my parents house on a sunday i have to go with them to keep up appearances.

i can't believe they expect you to go to mass every sunday.

My family is full of Catholics (guess it comes with the territory of being Filipino). I was rasied Catholic, endured the plaid skirts and polyester blouses for 8 years. I now think religion is just a bunch of trouble. It's what's caused a lot of major wars recently.

Boy, did my parents waste a lot of money on my schooling, or what?

There's also a russian version that I haven't seen (by that director who's name I can't remember.. oh yeah, Tarkovsky! Thank you google). It's supposed to be awesome, and I doubt the hollywood remake will be as weird as either version. I'd like to read that book.
kiche [email] said at 1:36 AM 03-31-2002:
yeah, i heard the russian government made that movie as a response to 2001.

i guess they felt there was a psychedellic scifi movie gap.

i want to see it too, matbe next weekend.

        read the book. it's awesome.

It's at Major Video on Perkins. I just watched. It's pretty flawless, exciting, and interesting. The scenes of pastoral Russia are some of the most beautiful and strange scenes I've seen in movies. I really doubt Soderbergh will do this justice, especially bringing Clooney along. In my opinion, Soderbergh hasn't developed beyond mediocre. I think the script and actors of S,L&V were its best elements.

If you liked this book, you should check out "The Cyberiad"

Lem is one of the greatest SF writers, EVER. Without him, there's no Gibson. So there.

    All right...
zack [email] said at 2:20 PM 04-02-2002:
Yeah, Lem is one of those writers I have always meant to read something by. Unfortunately, my reading habits have gotten really bad in the last several years. I used to read several books a month, and now all I read is comics and the internet, with the occasional book thrown in. LAME. Of course, free time is definitely a factor. I used to be an unemployed non-student, and now I'm a double job full time student. Not to say that that's the real reason I read less.

hmmm... killoggers need to read more. a lot of you don't even have favorite books listed on your profiles.

i will get around to reading the suggested books after i finish reading the autobiograph of malcolm x (yes, i feel like such a white poser reading it).

if anyone out there should happen across this page and have any suggested books for me to read, please put them on here. i will be checking back here periodically to see what books i need to be reading.

Well, here a list of books I wish I had more time to get to:

(1) The Demon-Haunted World & Intelligent Life in the Universe-2 titles by Carl Sagan
(2) Aldous Huxley-The Human Situation
(3) Darkness At Noon-Arthur Koestler
(4) Why I Am Not a Christian, and Other Essays on Religion and Related Subjects-Bertrand Russell
(5) Measuring Eternity-Martin Gorst
(6) Our Cosmic Habitat-Martin Rees
(7) anything by David Hume
(8) Stupid White Men-Michael Moore

The Moore title is obviously the anomaly in this list, but I have such respect for Mr. Moore and his cause(s) that anything by him, while it may not be "world-class literature", is worth reading. Having read the jacket to the Huxley book, it seems a bit out of my realm, but like Moore, any idea of his is worth investigating.

I recommend:

1) Wicked - The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West - by Gregory Maguire.

2) The Bell Jar - by Sylvia Plath

3) The Sandman Collection - by Neil Gaiman

4) The Complete Fairy Tales of the Brother's Grimm

If you don't like my suggestions, then you can suck my chocolate starfish.
