This month was the New York City Asian Film Festival - This month is the Japanses Film Festival.
I saw Dasepo Naugthy Girls (KR), The Banquet(CH) and Death Note(JP).
Dasepo Naughty Girl is a brilliant movie - It's a clever presentation of taboos in Korea, entirely based around a group of young people of different economic levels. It comes complete with cycloptic misfits, transvestite businessmen gangsters, trangenders, dancing sexual engergy cult leaders, principals possesed by dragon wanabees, rich Swiss raised Korean exchange students yodeling, Nintendo playing Johns and dancing pink clad pixies!!!! Go see it rent it download it get it.
The Banquet - wow. You have to see this movie.
Death Note - Desu Noto - Based on the mega selling manga series. This was the fist showing in new york city - complete with an introduction by the director. I didn't know what to expect, but I liked the movie, I have to get my hands on the real deal , the movie was good but it had to condense what amounts to about 7 series worth of the story into the movie...
"L" I thought was a great character, but Light is something else, even going as far as planning his girlfriends death for his own gains...
I decided to learn Korean formally so that I can stop sounding retarded.
Hangul is a brilliant phonetic writing system that was invented to replace the 15,000 or more chinese characters that were in use only by the academic and the nobles. It's so easy I learned it in a weekend.
Something clicked. I am learning fast now. I have to make space for it - The French, Moroccan Arabic, Italian, German and English have to move over !
Korean is pretty easy to type since syllables are so distinct.
