Faculty Prom Photo

The deranged professor and librarian at my company's holiday party:

Faculty Prom photo

I just received prints of these pics yesterday. I think it's weird that my company has prom-style photos at their parties... but we try to have fun with it.

So It's seemingly true that the SF contingent of Killoggs doesn't seem to be reading/posting here too much as of late. Perhaps it's the three earthquakes we had in one week. Perhaps it's because we have a forecast of possibly snow this week. Perhaps it's San Francisco values.

Things have been kinda boring around here save what I've just mentioned. Then again, I haven't really been paying much attention as of late. I haven't been doing much oot and aboot because it's been cold outside, which makes me want to wrap myself in a cocoon and watch Six Feet Under all evening. My thin CA blood thinks that it's been cold here this winter, although "cold" is often in the range of 40-50 degrees out.

We're in the middle of Macworld week, and the town's pretty abuzz with that. Every bus shelter and newspaper kiosk downtown is one big Apple ad. The iPhone has inspired many a lusting technogeek (myself included). I'm a bit saddened that Macworld has pretty much turned into iPodworld... there isn't as much computer-related stuff as there used to be. And definitely not as much good stuff for print designers such as myself. I spent an afternoon wandering the expo and came home with a new bus-powered external hard drive and a ton of promotional literature. Cheap Trick played the opening night party. I didn't go.

Just wanted to post an update from this side of the country. Where *are* the rest of you West Coasters, anyhoo?

new year's resolutions

Clean out basement room and start painting again
This will commence Saturday, and hopefully I can clear out everything the same day. I mentioned this before, but we have a basement room that has become sort of a dumping ground for various things over the years, and most if not all of those things belonged to previous tenants. It'll be nice to have a proper work space again.

Start acting again
I'm already signed up for a class that starts a week from now. I might never do it professionally, but I took a class once before, and it was lots of fun. I'm pretty good too (I think). That's reason enough for me.

Get a new job
Instead of just talking about it. I'll miss the nice laidback atmosphere of the paper, but it's time to move forward. I was pretty good about looking several months ago, but I got a raise shortly after my first couple of job interviews and got a little too comfortable working there again. But I have a few new expenses now, and I'm back to living more or less paycheck to paycheck again. If I was living fully, I wouldn't care, but I have to stay on a pretty strict budget to save anything.

Be cautious and certain about the women I choose to involve myself with
If I had to choose one word to describe my history of romantic involvement, that word would be fiasco. Never again will I let loneliness impair my good judgment. The next girl will be not only exciting but of sound mind as well.

Get back into photography
Depending on how far I'm willing to go with this, it could get pretty expensive, but with a decent job...

Go back to San Francisco to visit people, and maybe SoCal too
It's high time. I miss California.

Cook more
I already have most of my meals at home, but it's a lot of quick and easy stuff. I'd like to start cooking big meals on the weekend occasionally and having friends over.Yes, maybe if I feed my friends, they'll start visiting me...

Take a Spanish class (or two)
I know, I know. I was supposed to have done this months ago, I just didn't have the money to spend on it. This year, though, new job...

Get back in touch with music and go to shows more often
'Cause it's good for my soul.

Learn to be more comfortable being alone
I'm not saying, "Oh, poor me," here, I've just come to accept that I'm kind of a loner, that there are only a handful of people who really get me or have the patience to get to know me. While I really value my private time for quiet activities or just being introspective, it's often too much. I'm not quite sure how to get over this one, but I'm sure just staying busy will help a lot. And alcohol.

Continue going to the gym
I never look forward to going, but I feel so much better if I do it regularly, and the quality of my sleep is better too.

Read an hour before bed each night
I guess this is pretty dorky, but it's so much easier for me to read if I just set aside a particular time for it. I like to read, it's just hard for me to find the time for it lately for one reason or another.

Take some time to learn more about Illustrator, Flash and Dreamweaver
This goes along with looking for a new job. Most of the frustration in searching comes from just not seeing much that I'm qualified for.

Learn a musical instrument?
I'm kind of flip-flopping on this one. I just know that whatever I would decide to take up, it would take me years to be good, and I don't know if I have the patience for that this late in my life. Ben keeps pushing me toward learning the bass.

All of that should keep me pretty busy. Simply prioritizing this list will be a chore in itself. If I'm able to accomplish all of this in 2007, I'll look back and say it was the most excellent year of my life.
