Dia de Madres

It's always odd when you gain a new holiday. All week, people have been asking me what I'm going to do for "my first Mother's Day". It's likely I'll do a good bit of nothing, as my husband is working all day (being the chef kinda takes holidays away) and my own mother is a few thousand miles away in Louisiana. I will probably contemplate the nature of motherhood and the nature of this creature in my womb, and hope that his nature is nothing like that of the boy on the news story this morning who got up and shot his mom in the head three times, ostensibly because he resented having to go and get her a card on this, the fakest of fake holidays, the annual celebration of mimosas and Hallmark, of lilies and eggs Benedict. Call your mom today. I haven't even seen my still-developing son yet and I'm already mad at him for not getting me roses.

Enough Already!

I've had it with the fucking rain. 12 inches by tomorrow night. I have trees to slay and dice up into little pieces and whose dessicated corpses mustl keep me warm next Winter. I have a field to clear. I've got shit to do. Doesn't that bitch Mother Nature know this?

Who is that little brat in that ancient cartoon who wished it would never rain again and then her stupid talking flower died? I need that little shits help right now. Stupid little snot.

Fuck this!

Out of the mouths of babes, vol II

Okay, two weeks ago, I posted this on my blog:

And last but not least, from the “out of the mouths of babes” department, one of my four year old friends had a nugget of wisdom for me yesterday. Leah, with her curly brown locks, and her big blue eyes, looked up at me with the most serious expression ever and asked, “You know what?” When I asked her, what, she replied “George Bush lied to the whooole world.” I wanted to smile and hug her. I wanted to tell her she was the smartest little girl in the history of little girls. Instead, I just kind of nodded and said “Ahhh”, as if I hadn’t known that.

Pretty heady stuff. Today, another of my wee lasses informed me during snack time that "Theodore Roosevelt created the National Parks system." I had to ask her to repeat herself, and she did. She's four. years. old. And she knew that. One of my student assistants (who's in high school) asked me if Michaela was correct. I nodded, kinda dumbfounded, and the SA said, "Wow, I didn't know that."

Michaela is going to be a force to be reckoned with.
