[Episode Guide and Guest Stars]
Okay, so maybe from now on when I want to obsess about this show, I'll come back to this post.
I just RE-PURCHASED Season One, as well as getting Season Two whichwas just released on DVD.
I've been watching the Season Two episodes sparingly, being careful not todevour an entire disc at once.
Some of the episodes I haven't seen or don't remember, and so its a total indulgence to enjoy them for the first time.
Greatest show ever... besides Twin Peaks. They can't really be pitted against one another. It's like salty and sweet. Both delicious.
Anyway.
Oh man. Last night I watched an episode about fishing, of all things. The scene where Pete's friend Teddy plays a taxidermist is choice.
"What price Immortality?"
There are a fair share of cheesy jokes, from the obligatory kid-stuff to Iggy Pop's self references. That's what's so great about a children's show, though. Subtlety is employed only when necessary - there is no shame in taking the surreal and the ridiculous to the next level.
Most episodes feature an epic adventure, the likes of which I always dreamed of when I was a child myself; They answer the ringing payphone; Pete tracks down underwear Inspector 34. Zany and philosophical antics ensue.
Even the baseball episode disproved my doubts by featuring a mysterious and deranged coach, and an equally mysterious and potent frozen drink known as the "Orange Lazarus."
I have three remaining unwatched episodes from this season. I'm especially optimistic about "Sick Day," featuring Chris Elliot as a psychic meter man, and curious about the appearance of David Johansen as a park ranger.
After that, it's three months until the release of Season Three, the final thirteen episodes. Eventually my excitement will plateau, and I'll continue my eternal cycle of Twin Peaks, The Adventures of Pete and Pete, and Pee-wee's Big Adventure. Start to worry if these things can't bring a smile.
