fuck you little havana!

Tonight I picked up Abby and Angie C. and we went to this resteraunt in bmore to celebrate my half-sis' Carla's birthday. A good time was had. We were outside until it looked like a thunderstorm was brewing, then we moved in. Th efood was good, the mojitos were good, the conversation was good... everything was good until my Paypal debit card was suspisciously declined.

I say suspiscous because, before we left the house, I checked my Paypal balance and it was well over $200 bucks.

Turns out the fuckers at Little Havana charged me for THE WHOLE BILL, that is - ALL OF THE FOOD AND DRINKS FOR 13-14 PEOPLE! This is even though we gave them $160 in cash, and a WRITTEN DOWN LIST of how much to put on each card. Then they told me my card was "declined"... which it was... for the $35 we told them to charge to it, AFTER they had charged the whole bill first. So basicallly, they were paid DOUBLE for our food!

Grrrrr.

After all that (which still isn't resolved - I need to make calls tomorrow), we went to Holy Frijoles and Fraziers. I had fun, but I had wanted to treat Carla to drinks all night but couldn't, so that kinda sucked. Still, it was fun hanging out with the lovely ladies of Maryland.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARLA!

OK.

Thanks to the person who smashed in my window tonight. It's really appreciated at this point and time. Second car window I'll be replacing in 6 months.

The Parental Unit

Today my parents arrive in Chicago after having driven up from the New Orleans area. They may actually be inside the Field Museum at this moment. Jeremy and I have spent many sleepless night preparing the apartment for inspection. He even took off work yesterday to finish painting the last room. Everything looks awesome now.

Things we will do:

Today:

They will visit the Field Museum

I will meet them at their hotel after I get off work at 4pm

We will go have drinks and dinner. Perhaps at Jeremy's restaurant.

Friday:

We will shop. We will probably desengage Jeremy and my dad by lunch time and then it shall be classic mother/daughter shopping.

By 5pm we must be back at our apartment and begin preparing for the dinner party.

7pm people arrive. We have dinner on the roofdeck. Hot tub engagement optional.

Saturday:

Jeremy has band practice until 1pm. Me and the rents do a bike ride along the lake.

1pm, pick up Jeremy and shop for tents and fishing gear. Then shop for furniture.

Pick up my cousin Jessica and go to dinner in Lincoln Square

Sunday:

Whatever until 1pm, when the 'rents will come with me to rehearsal since they won't be in town for the play.

Then they leave. :-(

It always seems like such a short visit. Even before it starts.

Resident Evil: An Office Love Story

There is a reclusive, somewhat odd man in my office who is, let's face it, a little creepy. I've never heard him talk to anyone, and he has weird stringy grey hair that he wears about 6" long, but only in a ring around his head, since he's bald on top. He has a unibrow and is never cleanshaven, and dresses kinda like the red stapler guy in Office Space. In short, he's the kind of guy most people here avoid, and he also avoids most people here.

This week, he got moved into a cubicle in my section, and the following Great Drama unfolded yesterday. (Note: I was completely unaware that any of this was going on, and didn't get told about it until the end of the day.)

To Be Continued... in the responses

Secondary Postness

Right.

So my first post was boring, but I guess I will talk about myself, as I see others were compelled to be creative on their first try. I know the ol' KLSU folks on Killoggs from our days at the station together, 98-00. I just moved back to Louisiana after living in Chapel Hill, NC for a couple of years. It rocked, literally. The music scene was amazing!!! Now I am at my parents' house with my little powerbook trying to decide what I am going to do with my life. I do have the slight luxury of having time to kill, but one can only be home for so long. We are going to New Orleans tomorrow and I have literally made a schedule for myself of all the places I am going to go, um shop.

1. Mecca or United Apparel Liquidators
2. Scriptura (my stationery heroes, for they have taste, and for the H stationery, a local ad firm's line)
3. Bywater Art Market (monthly art sale in markey park - my 1st time)
4. Stationer of New Orleans (for Carrot & Stick Press notecards)
5. Magazine Street in general to look for bizarre folk art, I may not be able to buy it, but I'll be suckin' on my version of eye candy
6. Every non-mall shoe store I see...I know I don't understand why the female sex is compelled to do this, but I swear I am not like everyone else, I just appreciate good design!

did i mention I have no money?

something inside just feels right when I see a rozae nichols dress. I can't explain it.

Also, I will pass by

1. La Petite Grocery, newish restaurant of my former and wonderful boss and co-worker
2. Nothing Studios, so I can wish I could go in some more
3. Old Mag Street house, to flip it off
4. Old Prytania apartment, to inhale/exhale longingly
5. Jon Vaccarri's new studio, for the bad-ass design that is a BLUE chandelier

I have to pack now.

Kate
