no cooking in may

has anyone ever tried the Master Cleanser? one of my friends has used this in the past and is going to do it again for 10 days with 10 days of raw foods before and after, and i am considering joining him. perhaps it is the after effects of catholic guilt. i didn't fast once during this lent and in fact didn't even realize easter is this sunday, until i got candy in the mail from my mom.
i've read ancedotal studies which mention periodic fasting as ways to improve health and lengthen life but i'm not especially interested in that or in losing weight. i am more interested in reports that it helped or eliminated allergies. mine have gotten progressively worse and i'm not too thrilled with an inhaler as the only solution offered by my doctors.
i've never been on a diet before and i'm kind of leery of this being a gateway drug to eating disorders or something. i'm also sort of afraid of the explosive and descriptive terms i've heard regarding some of the "detoxifying" side effects. i wouldn't plan on continuing a raw foods lifestyle cause i like food too much for both sensual and the social pleasures.
anybody have any experience with this? any thoughts?

How about a poem?

Wishy-washy

I wish, I wish, I wish...
I wish I would stop wishing
A fish, she fought my fishing
I wish to wash my wishes away
we will recall our whimsy way
retreat, respite, regret, relay
the foolish feign failure
emotion e-mailer
the trash in yr trailer
looks cozy to me
for hiding and seek
see something so sleek
and slippy slip-tonguing
two cheeks cherry chummy
till taut tail to tummy
calm clammy and cummy
say something sweet dumpling
did dreams die dimwitted
with wishes misfitted
Miss, can't call committed
our hours are cowards
we wish without will
so feed without fill
until, until, until...

For all those afrogeeks . . .

AfroGeeks: From Technophobia to Technophilia
May 7-8, 2004
Center for Black Studies
University of California, Santa Barbara

Free and Open to the Public

In recent years, African Americans, especially, have been portrayed as poster children for the digital divide discourse. Though rarely represented today as full participants in the information technology revolution, black people are among the earliest adopters and comprise some of the most ardent and innovative users of IT (information technology). It is too often widespread ignorance of African Diasporic people's long history of technology adoption that limits fair and fiscally sound IT investments, policies and opportunities for black communities locally and globally. Such racially aligned politics of investment create a self-fulfilling prophesy or circular logic wherein the lack of equitable access to technology in black communities produces a corresponding lack of technology literacy and competencies.

Among the topics addressed at this "AfroGEEKS" conference are: concerns with structural barriers to IT access; effective models of innovative IT use and adoption; the influence of traditional science education on black youths' tech skills; black technophobes and Luddites; computer gaming; black IT leaders; IT commodity consumption versus production; black blogs and virtual communities; high-tech racial surveillance and profiling after 9-11; digital arts; the geek identity problematic, and more...

Guides By Voices

So I was hanigning ou with a friend of mine, Anna
and we were talking about ridiculous concerts we've been to
as well as ones we really dug
and I mentioned a Guided By Voices concert i had been at
years ago
and was utterly impressed with Pollard's drunknessness, stamina, and endurance
as well as the free flowing whiskey that everyone got in the front row
and when i looked at Anna
she was was completely silent, her face surprised.

"What?" I asked
"Did you just say Guided By Voices?" she asked
"Yeah, why? I think they're pretty good."
"Wow, I never thought you would like them," she said
"Why not?" I asked

She laughed.
"Because GBV is Sneaky Jesus music."
"What the fuck are you talking about? Guided by Voices?"
"Yeah, dude, just like U2." she said.

Sneaky Jesus music?
I don't know why I felt defensive
since religious implications to things
including music, has never really bothered me.
Hell, to have sprirtuality and faith is something i actually envy in other people
perhaps because I have none.

Does anyone know what she's talking about?
