Jazz Fest 06 - Day One

Yesterday, one of those rare moments when the stage became the pulpit, leather became the cloth, crowd searched for mercy and gospel came from THE BOSS.

Blatant Self Promotion

So, for the past couple years I have been recording an album with my band Reception Is Suspected. For those who don’t know me, I describe us as a rock band without guitars.

Anyway, some of my musician friends warned that I should expect “Post Album Depression.” Apparently the abundance of time I will have, now that recording is finished, will propel me into questions of existence and self-worth?

Nevertheless, I love our album (is that pretentious? I don’t care) and Chris Palazzo, who some of you know, floored us with the artwork.

If you want to hear or buy the album you can cruise over to our site www.receptionissuspected.com. Guess I’ll be in the corner reading Dostoevsky and Sartre. Ha!

Moog...

I am sure many of you have heard that synth pioneer Bob Moog has died at 71 of Brian Cancer.

His synthesizers were the single most important advancement in Electronic Music. Even today in a world of digital emulation and software synths the most common selling point is “Moog-Like” filters.

My band is finishing mixing our album this month and as I think about it, every song uses our beloved MicroMoog.

Godspeed Bob. Live Forever.

Some Tributes.

What a day.

I was wondering if others have had as an absurd work environment as I do. Here is what happened yesterday.

I am a computer consultant right now stationed at a client site. There is an employee of the client who is the most obscene and gross person I have ever met. He is obsessed with serial killers, talks about “Checking out of life soon” and feels that America should set up a hierarchical caste system preferably with computer programmers (his job) and doctors at the top.

The guy walks in and outbursts “I was thinking about people who have grown up without the threat of physical violence in sheltered lives. I think I should become a Super Hero who goes around showing them what it is to live with that threat.” This statement was aimed at me because for some reason he has the impression that I have been handed everything in my life and have never had to work for anything. When I asked if he was threatening me he responded “Just stay the fuck away from Frank’s Deli and Daiquiris and Crèmes in Covington.” (His hang outs I guess)

While I was at lunch he taped my laptop shut with duck tape because he “Hates me” and that I am a “tool.”

Finally during another one of his rants he kept calling me “Finger Paint” out of disrespect for my job as a designer. I was fed up and called him out, he started screaming, and “You think you are better than me? This isn’t a direct threat only a general statement of fact, DON’T LET ME SEE YOU OUTSIDE OF THIS PLACE.”

I was not the only target of his wrath yesterday, but needless to say I quit. I will probably just be moved to another project but it is one of those anywhere but there situations.

Anyone else have any good work place stories?

Big Fish Seeking Small Pond

Lately I have been fascinated with modular living. I am not talking about your grandpa’s camper, or your uncle’s double wide. I am speaking of the new “sophisticated" (meaning over-priced) breed of portable housing such as this.

I wonder though, if I would get one of these, would I actually move around every couple years, as they are intended, or would I be regulated to a yuppie trailer park. Here is a large list of prefabs if you are remotely interested in this mundane subject.

Speaking of yuppie trailer parks, I really want to start a resort for the “white collars” who would travel to the country and pay top dollar to be able to live poor for a week. I really think this would be a hit, but I also swallow my gum.

New Yankskee

I find myself in NYC right now for work and need some advice on things to do/see. Don’t know how loose the company leash will be, but I need options to ponder as I dream of balancing a mundane corporate existence and a swinging nightlife.

212 / 718 Killoggers send me some suggestions, I will be in Manhattan until Sunday.

Intro Please….

I met the old school killoggers back at KLSU and pleased about being reunited here on the intra-web. I hope this site does not render me complete useless and distracted when at work.

Here are some boring facts about me…

I push pixels they pay me. I turn knobs, people clap. Every year my new years resolution is the same…. “Learn To Say No.” I tend to misuse periods when typing, such as…and…I believe terrible spelling and terrible penmanship go hand in hand (Both plague me). And I recently moved from the 504 to the 225. Like I said, boring.

Anyway, to the good stuff…

For my first order of business, I shall lead a campaign…No, a crusade! To bring back the best band of all time… I have seen many shows in my 27 years and have even played a few myself, but nothing, I mean nothing compares to the shows I saw of the mighty DEATHWISH. I know the members haunt these logs. So I ask, why is there no site? No pictures, movies, or sound bites? No “Where are they now” type documentaries? No shameless reunion shows cashing in on nostalgic stardom? Why? Why? All I get when googled is an old Baton Rouge band directory with the listing Deathwish – 313-3334.

I would like to hear others talk of the fond memories and endearing moments when DW touched their lives.

My fist are still made of metal and you are still a bear,
-noah
