Hey, if you're interested in striking conversation with the Gorilla Girls about this year's Whitney Biennial... go to the museum tomorrow Saturday May 13 between 11 am and 1pm. I hear they will be out front distributing bananas and talking shop, with cameras rolling.
so far we raised about $200 with the jambalaya arts holiday card fundraiser. yay. all the proceeds go directly to the baton rouge area foundation.
next year it may be a good idea to do pre-ordering online...
anyone heard of this funny slang for the area of bushwick, brooklyn near the morgan ave station -- "Morgantown". intersesting little scene. if you are looking for good handmade tshirts and silkscreen, then visit my friend garrison's place http://antimart.net/
Hiya...
All these "new" people on killoggs... gosh.
Well if you know me, and i know you, and if you are in NYC over the super cold winter holidays, then please gimme a yell. not much new to report. I saw Louisiana over Thanksgiving. Yikes.
Here is a cool artshow:

Hi Everyone. I am in the process of doing a Holiday Card Fundraiser up here in NYC utilizing all the great talent of artist friends. I am looking for an organization to collaborate with in Louisiana, so that way the credit goes to the South for this project. The name of our loosly affiliated group here is"Jambalaya Arts".
If we work now, then the cards can go on sale by Halloween and catch the big rush to buy Christmas cards and the like. I think the cards will be displayed in a box of 30 or so, and placed near the cashier inside stores in Manhattan. Each card will cost $3 and 100% of theproceeds will go toward disaster relief. I'd also like for all thecards to have an official stamp, sticker, or tag.
Wanna make some cards for the fundraiser? I ordered some recycled paper envelopes that are a red wine color. The size of the envelope is A8 or5-1/2 x
8-1/8". The size card that will fit is 5-3/8 x 7-3/4" folded inhalf. Prior to folding in half, the paper dimension is 10-3/4 x 7-3/4". In case you don't feel like measuring, tell me your address and I'll mail you a sample card.
Can anyone suggest an organization for us to work with in Louisiana? It would be helpful to have a letter of endorsement or permission to use a logo for the Holiday Card fundraiser. Also when the time comes, we may need some suggestions on where to donate the funds. I like the idea of supporting an arts-therapy based program, but don't know who may be planning, let alone implementing, this yet.
I'd appreciate any advice, as this project seems to have a lot of potential- and could be done successfully in many cities.
Can anyone find a consistent Katrina donation location in NYC for clothing etc? I think donations are still being accepted in Brooklyn in Bay Ridge at this location:
NY State Senator Martin Golden's District Office
7403-5th Avenue between 74th and Bay Parkway
Brooklyn, New York 11209
(718) 238-6044
I was there this morning with a car load full of goodies, including a frisbee for Rocking the Boat designed by Erin Wright.
Still NYC needs a big location that is dependable. If anyone reading this has time to do so, please make some phone calls and get it rolling. I haven't heard anything publicized about the Salvation Army or anything.
There is this site, http://www.scribbledthoughts.com/dropoff but i am unsure where they are sending the donations exactly. The person coordinating it is from Lafayette, and I found her on Craigs list.
This weekend I called up all the cajun restaurants in NYC to ask about fundraisers. Only one had it together already:
New Orleans Relief Effort Benefit
Wednesday Sept 14, starting at 7pm
Jacques-Imo's NYC
366 Columbus Ave At 77th St , New York 10024
Phone: 212-799-0150
http://www.jacquesimosnyc.com/index_home.php
This restaurant's owner runs the location on Oak Street in New Orleans, next door to the Maple Leaf Bar. They say: Great New Orleans' Food, Open Bar, Live Entertainment, and a great, great auction. Come support New Orleans! 100% of the proceeds are going to relief efforts in New Orleans. Tickets are $30.00 in advance and $40.00 at the door. Call 212-799-0150 to buy your ticket.
On the phone they tell me in addiion to this, now 15% of any bill gets donated to Louisiana.
Wow Mr. Quintron is amazing in concert. Miss Pussycat is sooo sexy too!
And as a bonus, there were all these freaky Louisiana people gathered together smooshing eachother at the show. Now that doesn't happen too often in Brooklyn.
Femi Kuti played Summerstage in Central Park on Sunday. Anyone ever been to Nigeria? I'd like to go. That was show was really really really good! Actually I am curious if anyone has seen Femi Kuti play in Louisiana... the comparison/contrast factor intriguies me.
Hooray for free and cheap music. Tomorrow/Wednesday Northern State is playing at South Street Seaport at 7pm-- wee wee free free. And Friday night Bill T. Jones' dance group will be at Summerstage. Yay.
If you want some yummy recipes, I just completed the Blereau Family Cookbook.
Look at the cookbook online using this website

i am just writing to let you know that i am still on the planet and playing in nyc. a few weeks ago i met another killoggs-er, michele, at the museum of modern art. we both work in the same department?!? in nov i started a new job there. yay. also i still do a part-time job at an art gallery. weeeeeee . hooray for pretty pictures.
you know what i did today? i got a tooth removed. total party in my mouth for the next six months. i'll even get a fake one put into it's place. i take my tooth troubles to the NYU dental clinic. it promise an educational experience every time for both patient and "doctor". the people there are very nice and the rates are great. these doctors are young, easy to relate to and don't fit the usual stereotype of your average mid-western moustached laughing gas white guy.
my doc and i exchanged cell phone numbers yesterday, because she didn't have time to do the extraction then. so today after working two hours, she calls and says she can see me. then i get on the walkie talkie and say the most embarrasing thing: "hi this is laura managing crowds outside the museum on 53rd street. i am having a dental emergency and need to go because my doctor can see me now. i know this sounds weird, but is is true. can someone come out here and relieve me from my post?"
so that is my story for today. i hope you laugh at me. you don't know how happy i was to get the tooth removed.
Hey I picked up this leaf while hiking in New Paltz last weekend.
Also Katie Richert, the super dooper painter and roommate, moved back down to Sulphur, LA this week. Lick Katie if you see her.
Hey-- Katie, Robin, and I are having a party tomorrow, Saturday 14 at 8pm. We will have tasty refreshments and any far travelers can sleepover in the backyard. Bring a tent or a friend or something for potluck. If you need directions then call or email.
Do you, or someone you know, need a place in Brooklyn?
Here’s the deal:
It’s a bicycle accessible first floor apartment in the quiet Windsor Terrace neighborhood. We have a grassy backyard with a patio, and plenty of easy parking on the street. The strikingly beautiful and talented Laura Blereau will be your roommate, and the person with whom you will share a bathroom, kitchen, and living room. There is even a garage in the building for extra storage, and that space is shared with other tenants. Your price for this slice of heaven is a low low low $750 per month. Rent also includes the price of both electricity and gas. The F train station “Fort Hamilton” is only 2 blocks away.
The ideal roommate will be non-smoking, and own no cats or dogs.
No goons either.
Just email me through the Killoggs site if you are interested. Gracias Amigas.
This is where I have been hanging out lately. Three weekends in a row. I can't get enough of the ocean and I am riding my bike like a mad woman. 25 miles sometimes. Really beautiful. The Rockaways are even better. So, yes it is true-- today's my birthday. And this afternoon I am going to Coney Island to buy a bike. Weee.
On Long Island I found an awesome place in Rocky Point to do bmx and mountain biking. My new bike will be a purple 5 speed bmx. Maybe I will post a picture when I get it. The old bike is just fine, but not made for the dirty drivin that i crave lately.
Really I am obsessed with bicycles right now. I just can't get enough. I find myself saying things like HPV and expect others to know I mean Human Powered Vehicle.
Why not Why not let's all drive bikes instead of deathmachines?
i'm going this weekend to visit the m.i.t. media lab. any killoggsers in boston? what's a body to do in boston in the evenings, or what is a good paper with events listings?
