am i the only one?

Okay so it's raining here, and then the sun comes out. and i say, "oh, i guess the devil is beating his wife." and my boss says, "WHAT?!?"

Has anyone else heard this phrase. I have told three people in the last five minutes and received horrified stares. I am from Louisiana so maybe it's a southern thing?

Band of Horses - Everything All the Time

I have a simple message. Buy this album. You won't be sorry. I have been buying it for my friends. It's just incredibly good and easy for a lot of people to like. Think old My Morning Jacket, with a Perry Ferrely voices, but yet a Shinsy feel. It's the album of the summer, for sure.

Meet Tyler Hansbrough

I know this picture looks goofy, but when a freshman dominates the ACC like this hottie...it ain't so goofy. I just spent the last hour roaming Franklin Street watching people burn anything they can get a hold of, beat signs, jump up and down, push me and my friend and say, "OH my GOD, we beat Duke!!"

Yes, UNC has come back in the second half of the ACC basketball season to beat those lame blue devils in their home court, the infamous Cameron Stadium. Tyler Hansbrough has been assisting the team with his good looks, I mean, brilliant shots, 3 pointers, slam dunks, cute pouts when he gets fouled, OH i mean, what? can't we get crushes on the players? I know I'm not the only one. Too bad he's 19! I mean, to be honest, he's not really my type, but those HUGE eyes just KILL me. and I can't help but now say that I cheered for him SOOOO loud at the bar it was so funny to me. I felt as if i actually have a crush on him. Looks-wise, JJ Reddick is so much more my type, fair skin, dark hair, ooh he is a babe, but look, when I saw that chick with JJ painted on her cheek, I was ill. I was like, oh no, you is dumb. Look at me, I'm POSTING about it. What's worse? Ehh, it's all entertaining and I am soooo glad that I have this eye candy!

I am JUST AMAZED, AMAAAAZED at the basketball craziness of this town, these towns. they were going insane over basketball. I am used to football, you know? LSU. we would never burn anything though. Forrest is from Tennessee and I'm sure he would agree no one would go and burn anything? It's harmless, I'm not knocking it. It was a blast.

I watched the game at my favorite bar with full intention to head to a show afterwards. My friend Cy who was also at the bar, was leaving as we were all screaming our heads off that UNC won. I asked him, hey you going to the Cradle? He's like, not yet i'm going to blah blah blah. I was like, okay. Then thinking, what the heck did he just say?? Then it hit me. I turned to Forrest and said, Oh my god, he is going to check out the people on Franklin Street. You wanna go? So we totally went. Fuck the show, I just saw the best show ever, considering i missed mardi gras this year.

(i told this story out of order, too lazy to fix it)

my roommate and her damned dog!!

When i moved in to my craigslisted abode, i knew there was going to eventually be a dog in the house. I looked forward to this. Little did i realize that my roommate had never raised a dog before, only cats. Also, this dog she brought home is a pitt bull. A very sweet one, but it eats every fucking thing in the house, and i mean anything it decides to eat, and pees and poos everywhere. Also my roommate was anti-training, anti-crate training and anti-any sort of keeping it outdoors, or any kind of cleaning up after the dog, except for the excrement. Therefore the DOG TOOK OVER!!! One day i came home to the entrance of my room with plastic bits, sock bits, and a giant tree branch all in front of my room!!!! This was my roommates retarded solution at keeping her away from other things in the house. Mind you she is in LAW SCHOOL and doesn't have time to be with the dog!!!! That's the other problem. It's an INDOOR dog and needs to be let out, and whatever she asks us to do it, and motherfucker i have two jobs, and shit a life, jeez, i feel like i am in panic mode when i get home worried if i pee the dog will poop while i am trying to use the bathroom!! I HATE THAT FUCKING DOG!! It ate my mail! It ate my letter!! It smells bad!! I EVEN LOVE DOGS!! I came home from thanksgiving and there were eaten socks everywhere because she lets the dog take socks out of her room and eat them. There was a plastic cup on the stairs, all eaten up. There were bits of plastic from the eaten cd's EVERYWHERE. There was cotten and shit like that all over the carpet and I finally said, dude, you have to clean up after your dog. I can't do it for you all the time. She acted like she didn't notice it because she is a messy natured person. That was it! I don't need it neat, but shit, it would be so embarrassing for someone to come over!! We already have such a ghetto house. After this she decided to take the dog to the pound to try to see if someone could watch her until finals since none of us could since the dog needs to be monitored all the time!!!!! mother fucker! Then she sent out this fucking email!!!

---------

I feel like Ruby is a topic that conjures only negative thoughts. She certainly has some for me- ate my phone, cost me $$ on crate/toys/leash/carpet cleaner. However, I personally enjoyed having her around during the fleeting moments when I wasn't dealing with consumption or excretion.

It's hard to remember all those people I know who have dogs whose dogs don't destroy their house and control their lives. Oh yes, there's one, there's another... yes all the other dogs I know do not excrete in the house or chew everything they can find. This gives me hope. If other dogs can do it, so can Ruby!

She comes home on the 15th. I will print out info from the pros on exactly how to adjust dogs' behavior, and I have 4 weeks off school to dedicate to it.

Something has to change though.

I think it's reasonable that those who get the benefit of having a dog around also accept the responsibilities. I grossly underestimated how much work she'd be during the first month. I thought there wouldn't be any problem doing it myself. I was totally wrong. But the responsibility of a dog split between 4 people is more manageable-- especially the night & day difference between a well-behaved dog and the psychotic bitch that was here for a few weeks.

The question is getting her well-behaved. As I said, I'll have oodles of time after the 15th, and we'll follow the pros' advice to knock out the bad habits. But she's going to be the house's dog now.

Yes, this is a unilateral decision I'm making. I make these almost never-- you can ask my friends in Raleigh where I held this same "house billpayer" role for 2 years and NEVER ONCE made a unilateral decision. However, since you all are free to give 30days notice and I am the one with all the risk and financial/organizational responsibility, it's reasonable that I have the right to give any of you 30days notice either to leave or to change the conditions of your staying here.

That's exactly what I'm doing now. The change of condition is that, effective Jan 1, Ruby is a household responsibility like gas or internet. Both her personal and financial care will be divided by 4. 4 people can totally handle taking care of a dog, especially once she's behaving. The financial aspect will be minimal. Only food, maybe a toy, and a yearly checkup (which she won't need until 12months from now. There will be no expensive surgeries).

----------

I gave her my notice.

Fuck that.

Caribou Kickin' Booty

I just got back from seeing Caribou open for the Super Furry Animals. I was BLOWN AWAY! They literally startled the audience with a bold burst of drums, guitar and synth that was not only instant, but so LOUD that I was, i don't know, kind of confused and excited. They did this in small doses and then just went into their first song and I was like, oh my god, that was so great. They had a screen behind them as you can see in the photo (barely i know), with colorful animations. The guy all the way to the left would also hop on drums as well as the drummer to the right (not pictured) so for many songs there was dual drumming and I AM SUCH a sucker for dual drumming. I mean, they rocked so hard and could also play so beautifully in the very next song. I had my hands over my mouth in awe. After their first drumming bit, all I could yell was, "YESSSSS!" I mean, that is how it's done!!! Rock that!! Damn!! I think after one song, this guy said to him self, god damn. That is what this band is like. I was fucking floored. I wasn't prepared. This was a last minute decision to go because I haven't ever listened to Caribou/Manitoba. I knew I would like it probably, but just never have picked up a cd. Same with Broadcast too, who are playing on Sunday. Anyway, all my friend Forrest and I said to each other after they played was, our friends are dumb for not being here, and man we can't wait to tell them what they missed!! What a show!!!!!!!!!! I mean, this was no Sigur Ros, but let me tell you, Super Furry Animals did not follow Caribou. Caribou led Super Furry Animals.

The lines for gas are long in Lake Charles, LA.

I filled up yesterday, but was with Mom when she wanted to top off her tank. We passed one house that had its windows boarded up, but we are sort of in a weird position here. There are mandatory evacuations in the parish below us, Cameron, and in the south of our parish, Calcasieu because they are on other water sources. Otherwise we are on Hurricane Watch and are advised to keep supplies for five days in case the power is out that long. Temperatures have been a record high this week. How can you really say, don't evacuate, but there will be scorching heat and no power for five days, maybe? Dude, mom booked a hotel room in Mississippi, and is making us all pack a bag to leave in the AM if it really moves closer towards us. Dave is in Houston, and I am sure he has mentioned in other pages what he is going to do. Dude, Dave, what's up? Be safe! I mean, nothing could really happen, but the words, category five, are sort of like, "click," ROLL. Except!!! my dad has to stay no matter what which is NOT cool with me, and we have five dogs which are also staying because dad is staying. He is a pathologist and has to stay for work and I understand, but that's MY dad. You can't replace MY dad. I have suddenly had this chip on my shoulder and started to insist that I am going to stay home and man the fort. Do you realize how insane this is that I am thinking this? I just want to punch that hurricane in the face. It's like the same feeling I get when killing a roach...die motherfucker, you cannot live in this house, this is my house! even though i really feel sorry for the roach.

CMJ Music Marathon 05 Sept 14 - 17 NYC

Ello Ello Ello,

Heading to New York City for CMJ. I am now very curious to see what the vibe wiill be like in New York about the hurricane, compared to Louisiana. I live in SW Louisiana where it's definitely more calm, but still nothing is too far if it's in your own state. I just want to get on the plane and listen to what people are talking about from lake charles to houston, then from houston to new york, and then in a new york coffee shop. I bet it's totally different. Obviously it will be. The hurricane hum will quiet. This totally interests me. What also interests me is perspective. I shall see for myself.

My really fuzzy plans that will be vastly improved when other parties get added (CMJ Should brighten my mood)

WED NIGHT...Jacques-Imo's Benefit with Laura, Sean...and others...

THURS...day shows at Lincoln Center, John Vanderslice, NIGHT, Joggers/Dios Malos at Scenic, Merge/Astralwerks/TouchandGo/SubPop After Party at....

FRIDAY...music copyright panel, chouette partyNIGHT Merge Showcase (Richard Buckner, Tenement Halls, Annie Hayden, Portastatic, Crooked Fingers, The Rosebuds), Matador After Party at....

SATURDAY...SubPop Showcase at the Bowery (Chad Vangaalen, Holopaw, Fruit Bats, Kinski, Rogue Wave, Wolf Parade, The Constantines) GOING TO KICK MY ASS!!!!!!!!!! ***SOLD OUT***

I just want to add that I got a certain one of my favorite bands' advance cd, okay leaks, from this random guy last weekend! It's called, "*indsurfing *ation" catch my drift? It's ruling my school.

hurricane bumming me out big time and making it hard to sleep. cmj makes me think christmas is coming early. i am that excited. like, OHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jeff Mangum Resurfaces in NYC With Pals OTC

from Billboard.com today...

Neutral Milk Hotel mastermind Jeff Mangum made his first live appearance in
years last night (Aug. 2) in New York, guesting with Olivia Tremor Control
during the first of two performances at New York's Bowery Ballroom. The
artist bounded on stage about an hour into the show to sing "I Have Been
Floated," from OTC's 1999 album "Black Foliage: Animation Music." Mangum
appeared to be wiping back tears and hugged OTC members at the song's end,
which was met with stunned, thunderous applause.

Decked out in a blue button down shirt and green ball cap, Mangum came on
stage again during a jubilant encore to handle lead vocals on "Shaving
Spiders." At its conclusion, he pulled OTC member Julian Koster to the floor
and was then jumped upon by other members.
In the late '90s, members of Olivia Tremor Control and Neutral Milk Hotel
were frequent collaborators with each other under the umbrella of the
Athens, Ga.-based Elephant 6 collective.

But Mangum has rarely been heard from since the tour in support of Neutral
Milk Hotel's 1998 album "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea," a cult classic that
has come to be thought of as a touchstone of late '90s indie rock. The set
has sold more than 141,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen
SoundScan.

"Aeroplane" is due to be reissued by Domino Records in the U.K., although no
specific date has been confirmed. In addition, Fire Records is planning an
expanded reissue of Neutral Milk Hotel's 1996 debut, "On Avery Island," with
the band's approval.

As for Olivia Tremor Control, its ongoing tour is an outgrowth of a reunion
inspired by an appearance earlier this year at the All Tomorrow's Parties
festival in England. Co-frontman Bill Doss split from the group in 1999; he
then released two albums with the group the Sunshine Fix, while remaining
OTC members issued a project as Circulatory System.

Sound Isolating Earphones by Shure

E2c Sound Isolating Earphones by Shure, $109.00

"Originally developed for professional musicians, the E2c combines Dynamic MicroDriver speaker technology with a sound isolating design to deliver rich, full-range sound while blocking outside noise -- ideal for enhancing your listening experience with portable MP3, DVD, and CD players as well as all other audio sources."

http://www.shurestore.com/earphones/eseries_e2c.html#overview

I have wanted headphones like this for YEARS, and now here they are. Why am I hesitating to buy them? Do any of you have them yet, or own anything similar? There have been so many times where I hold my hands over my ears for the "good parts" of songs. I also have long gotten over the desire for keeping around a pair of good bulky sony headphones with the curly cord. I want minimal, in my ear, outside sound cancelling bliss! Especially for the airplane, and especially to make the bass in my music even more intense.

what do i have in my ears right now...oh sony. man, even if i cover my ears up, the bass isn't that great. but 100 bucks for a little pair of earphones, what if they break, get lost? i have like four pairs of these cheap earphones hanging around my room. i just pick them up and go. maybe that's just me. of course i would be super careful with these nice earphones, but tiny and expensive, i just hate that combination. i just imagine this hammer coming down...SMASH! or my shoe crunching down, and that's it. nobody's perfect.

Post Old Pictures of People on Killoggs: Part 2

After some quick searching I have found some pics I thought were worth featuring, and I didn't want everyone to have to wait on the other post to have to upload since I have so many pictures too.

they look so innocent! meredith, noah, brandon, noah's friend craig, and sam, then there's the franzia

the best summer ever, klsu kids, teresa and josh kickin' it after crawfish and beer, and blowing up random firecracker bombs

part of the formal event of 3 Strange Days at brandon's house, linus attempting to lick teresa on the dance floor, aka brandon's living room...Good Times!!

so brad shows up at sam and noah's superbowl party with a huge bag of pixie sticks and a camera to take a picture of josh and asks to use the table, "sure dude," and starts messing around with all the pixie sticks. I laughed my ass off when it was time to take the picture. i have this in my room.

If you look right in the middle of this picture you will see a guy in a yellow tshirt wearing a jacket and a pair of bunny ears, that's BEN! We are actually at his house for Mardi Gras. Meredith and I are in the front yard in the middle of the crowd looking far off somewhere. Ben is talking to KLSUer Heather Fos. Ahh yeah, pre-Endyminon-ness at Ben's. Josh is there too man, and Noah and Linus and Ed, and and yeah.

Toga Party at Heathers! Mer, a Blue and Gold coordinated Grecian beauty, and I, Cupid, because we're awesome.

saving the best for last, brandon, noah, wendee, skip, john, heahter and me...i bet dee took this picture... and meredith, i bet those are your hands behind Skip because that looks like your watch! and your hair for that matter : )

"A B-Boy Standin' In My B-Boy Stance"

I just downloaded both k-os albums because I'm hooked dudes. This american white girl is loving some canadian hip hop, oh yeah! This is so perfect for summer too. Why haven't I gotten into this sooner? Hip-hop for me has been a slow thing to get into, but british hip hop, or even trip hop has been my lead-in, and especially because of those AWESOME beats. Since I like to dance, and I like good melodies from pop songs, this is a good mix of both. I also like Dizzee Rascal's, "Fix Up, Look Sharp" so I know I need to download his stuff too. I realize this is more new to me, but man, good stuff, good stuff!!

Cheers to Patrick - KLSU Mini-Reunion in BR

Attending the Patrick Bowers Benefit concert was very good times for many reasons, but especially because we immediately heard Patrick was there inside. He had a Miller High Life in his hand and was in great spirits only to complain that he gained a little weight, of which we highly disagreed was anything to be concerned about. He looked great!! He was himself. We got him another beer immediately and started chatting with in relief and happiness, whoo hoooo!!!! He showed us his scar and man, he was telling us how it will come back and the surgery is expensive to have it removed again every couple of years or so. But man, people were there for him, there to support Patrick and I told him you guys who couldn't make it were thinking of him, and mentioned names and he was happy to hear that. What a nice guy!!

I have to say, we had one crazy night ourselves, John, Jack, Bill (oh yes that Bill), and I, and later Brandon and Rick. I had my camera going the whole night and I am going to post a lot of pictures in the response area and I had the hardest time paring them down, so whatever they are funny. : )
