Spectacular weekend

I saw Lionel Ritchie at the Jazz Fest yesterday and boy, I gotta, tell ya....Watching people dance around to such great hits as "Dancing on the Ceiling" and "All Night Long" was an experience like no other....He also played a few Commodores songs but my favorite song out of all them was "HELLO".
I stood there alone in amazement just laughing...sometimes loud at times, and sometimes the kind where I was trying to hold it in but my belly was shaking. It really was priceless and I wish all of you could've been there.

What is in my pants?

I was doing laundry today and noticed something that is driving me crazy. I was putting some pants that I got from The Limited in the washer and noticed the tag said "Made in Vietnam" followed by 60% rayon, 36% nylon, 3% viscose, and 1% other fiber. What OTHER fiber?? I know it's only 1% but think of all the possibilites! And if it wasn't something bad wouldn't they just say what it is?

Stupid little girl

I've come across this problem in the work environment that I'm not sure how to handle so I thought maybe you guys could help. I've been at it in tourism sales for about 7 years, worked in tourism since college, and I just had a birthday that put me just under 31.
The problem I'm having is when I encounter business associates over 45 years old who in conversation say "I could have a child your age" or "You were probably just a baby when I did such and such" or "You probably don't know about that because you weren't born yet".
Just yesterday I was at lunch with 3 people who were all over 45 and this part of the conversation lasted way longer than I would've liked it to. Another time I was out after a convention with a bunch of people at a bar and when I played Creedence Clearwater on the juke box somebody said " What's this! Did your daddy tell you about that song?" and everybody laughed.
I am tired of this kind of humor and don't see what the point is. I am flattered to be young but the impression they give me is that because I'm young I'm stupid and don't know anything about anything. The only thing I can do is not laugh and change the subject but I could use some clever responses to these stupid remarks.

Rubbing elbows with the millionaires

Story 1: As you may have already heard, Ben, Elise, and I met Blaine Kern on Sunday when we went to visit Mardi Gras World. He was really nice and down to earth and told us his whole story of how he started his Mardi Gras float empire which has grown to a worldwide operation. It was actually my first time going to Mardi Gras World and I was very impressed.
Anyway, the next part is that yesterday I had to go to the Sheraton hotel to drop off some stuff for a meeting and I ran I into him walking into the hotel. I talked to him again for a bit, told him I really enjoyed hearing his story, etc. He again was very friendly. The whole time I was thinking "I wonder how rich this guy is exactly".

Story 2: After work yesterday I went to eat with some girlfriends and we wanted to grab a drink after dinner. We were in the Bucktown/Metairie area and drove by this place called Sweet Fire and Ice. We decided to go have a drink there despite it's flashy cheesiness. So we're at the bar and my friend points out this guy with a lot of plastic surgery. Lo and behold, it's Al Copeland, the founder of Popeye's Chicken (&Biscuits) and owner of the restaurant/bar we are sitting at. He also owns Cheesecake Bistro and Strayas restaurants in New Orleans. So of course I had to talk to him and we ended up talking for about an hour. By the end of our conversation I heard all about his businesses, heard about that fight he got into a while back with the Guidry guys at Mortons Steakhouse (I had to ask about that), and he even showed me pictures of his kids. There's so much to say about this guy that I don't know where to start. in one sentence I would say that he is quite a character, flithy rich, and most likely into some dirty La. politics.

So there you have it folks. I met two millionaires in one day. I just wish they would have given me some money just to be nice.

Strange

Yesterday I returned home from work to find a bunch of papers on my lawn, obviously someones garbage that blew into my front yard since it was a windy day. So I gather the papers and find that there are 3 pink checks (along with a few receipts) written out to different establishments, all from the same couple, Mr. & Mrs. Calamusa. The checks are written to Woolco, Clothing Palace, and Louisiana Gas. First I notice that the couples address is about 3 miles away from my house. The next thing that I found curious was that I hadn't heard of any of the companies the checks were written to. So I looked at the year the checks were written and couldn't believe my eyes...1975!
There is also a faint stamp on all of them that says "PROCESSED-MERCHANT SAVINGS & LOAN, KENNER, LA" (even further away from my house). It totally amazes me that someone wrote these checks 30 years ago and then they just show up on my lawn 30 years later. I keep wondering how they got there and can't wait to go home today to see what else I might find on my lawn.

And you may ask yourself...How did I get here?

I went to 80's night at One Eyed Jacks last night with brother Jon, and my friends Alec and Steve. At 11:30 I made the decision that I was going to be a curfew violator since I was having so much fun and it didn't look like anyone else was too worried about it. At 12:30 the police stormed in, the music stopped, all the lights went on, and everyone was getting kicked out. It was really weird because there was no "last call" or any announcement made. Everything just stopped and out we went to the streets of the French Quarter. So we piled in my car and I dropped off Alec and Steve around the Esplanade/Molly's area. After dropping them off I was driving down Esplanade towards the interstate when I got pulled over. The cop started off all "official" saying that he was from Kansas or something helping out the NOPD. He asked me for my license as well as where I was going and where I worked. I just told him that I was trying to get home, tried to look really scared yet cute, then we had a pretty normal conversation about the museum where I work and he wished me well on my trip home.
Going out in New Orleans is a lot different than it used to be.

Cute little cats

I finally have the internet at my house in Terrytown now so I'm glad to be posting again. I went to the pet shelter the other day with brother Jon and saw some of the cutest animals I've ever seen. This is how cute they were:

All of these guys were rescued during the storm and are missing their owners. You can find them on petfinders.org
It's really sad, but they sure are cute!!!

What next?

Hey everybody!
I'm sitting here at the public library in Natchez, MS where we evacuated to. I just wanted everyone to know where I was and that I am okay, although it's killing me to not be able to call anyone. Cell phone service is down and I can check my messages but I can't call anyone back. Other than that, we're staying in this really shitty hotel room here with the cats and I would like nothing more than to stay someplace else. We're going to look for a place to camp today but at least the ghetto hotel has a tv. It's weird to not know when you can go home again. I wish I could just drive west and keep on going. I really don't want to go back to New Orleans anytime soon. I'm curious about it but I prefer not knowing what we lost. Anyway, I'm doing fine despite all the craziness. I feel like I've made a lot of good decisions so far. I guess that's all I had to say. Oh, and Ben, I haven't checked on things in Gulf Shores but you might not want to fly down here on Saturday.

Antique Piano

I just bought this:

It's an Alphonse Cary piano made in England around the beginning of the 1900's. It plays pretty well/is pretty much in tune, but is a tuners nightmare from what I hear. I like that it looks like an organ but have no idea whether I paid too much or too little for it since I couldn't get much info on it via the web. I'm gonna put it in my bar in my house so I will have a piano bar but wonder if I will regret it later on.

Shoes and the serial Killer

I've been meaning to post about this but was slightly embarrassed about it.
There has been a serial killer in the Houma, LA area who has been killing men, some from Houma, some from New Orleans. The news reported that these men were found without shoes on, but mostly clothed otherwise. They supect that the killer has been performing some weird religious foot ritual on them before killing them.
So a few weeks ago, I was driving down the Earhart Expressway and there's a whole bunch of shoes scattered along the roadway for at least a mile or two. I remember thinking it was strange and could not believe how many shoes somebody had thrown out the window. When I saw the article about the victims not having shoes on, I thought maybe the killer could have ditched the shoes along the road and that I should tell somebody JUST IN CASE.
So I call Crimestoppers and it is a Saturday about 2 weeks ago. A lady answers and I tell her that I heard the victims of the serial killer didn't have shoes on and that I thought I should tell someone about the shoes all over the road. She seemed totally disinterested and told me that she was on the "weekend crew" and that I should call back on Monday. Needless to say, I did not call back on Monday, and the shoes were pretty much gone by a few days later anyway. How hard would it have been for that lazy bitch to at least make a note or something?? I mean WHAT IF the shoes really were those of the victims? Am I right or am I completely retarded for calling them in the first place?

VACATION!!!

I just got back from a weeks vacation and it totally rocked. We saw Nine Inch Nails in Houston and got picked to go to the after party where we met the band!!!! It was so killer. I asked the guitar player how he maintained his energy level after playing every night for such a long time. His anwer: "Drugs". I talked to him for a while and the keyboard player as well and we watched people take pictures with Trent but our stupid asses didn't bring a camera.
From Houston we flew to Midland, TX, rented a car and went to Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Nat'l Parkfor a night, then went to Roswell for a night, then went to the Lincoln National Forest and stayed in the town of Cloudcroft for 2 nights where we went hiking 2.5 miles at 8000 feet up and it was cold. We also went to the Space Museum and the White Sands Nat'l Monument in Alamagordo.
Now I'm back and tryiing hard not to get back to reality. I really don't want to go back to work. I want to go on vacations all the time. It's funny how vacations make you realize what your really all about. Too often I define myself by my job. I want to make sure I go back and read this post so I remind myself to stop doing that. Anyway, I'll try to post pictures once I shrink them down.

Mick Mars is a funny little troll man

I went to see MOTLEY CRUE last night and they were more impressive than I could have ever imagined. The show was a circus theme complete with dwarves, mostly naked girls dangling from chains, and motorcycles being ridden around on stage. The highlight though by far was that there were two drum sets suspended from 2 different locations above the crowd and Tommy Lee flew through the air flying from drum set to drum set. Another highlight was the "titty cam" where he went through the crowd getting girls to lift their shirts which they showed on the big screen behind the stage. He also stood on stage and showed his stuff in all of it's glory. I was sitting really high up and it still looked really big. Anyway, besides all of this fun stuff there were also plenty of fellow metalheads to laugh at...but it was nice to see that so many people still love metal.

Good times

I went and saw Liquidrone and Happy Talk Band Friday night at One-Eyed Jacks and I think it was the best show I've ever seen Liquidrone play. It started late since there was some private party hosted by Sean Penn and Happy Talk played about 3 songs longer than I wanted to hear, but Liquidrone was awesome. They included members of Bingo and a lot more stage theatrics plus the show was packed. Another plus was that they played a long time...til about 3am. I would really like to see them play more shows like that one. Other than that, I went to O'Flaherty's Irish Pub then to the Dungeon when O'Flaherty's started to wind down. It was another night where nobody wanted to go home. So today is recovery day and my Taco Tico is here....Hope everyone had a good weekend!!!

Memphis blows

I am in Memphis right now for a convention and have been here since Saturday and I just want to tell everyone that Memphis sucks!!! It is the most depressing city I have ever been in. Many of the downtown buildings are empty, including the big pyramid, and there are more condemned houses/projects/overall scumbags than I can count. We even encountered 3 crazy guys with knives last night a block from Bealle Street. Since it is a long story, I will simply say that I was with 6 other people and nobody got hurt or anything stolen. I can't wait to leave this shithole and I'll be leaving feeling sorry for Elvis who is buried at Graceland, across the street from urban sprawl. Poor Elvis.

Dog poo for sale?

So what's up with this? When I look at killoggs I do not see this Gooogle box, but when my friend looks at killoggs, there's this Goooogle box with Dog Poo for sale. She said it's only on killoggs, no other sites, and I have never seen this. I'm pissed because I've been shopping for Dog poo for a long time and this would have helped me out tremendously. How come I can't see it?

Lost bear

Yesterday on the way to work I spied a giant brown teddy bear, about 4 feet tall, on the side of the Earhart Expressway. He was just sitting on the side of the road. I mentioned to Phil that someone would probably pick him up but he was still there today. We started to wonder how he ended up there to begin with. Phil said he probably fell out the back of a truck. I said a kid was probably aggravating his mom with it while she was driving until she just got pissed off and threw it out the window. I'm still curious for some reason and really can't believe nobody has picked him up since so many people love teddy bears.

To MyTights.com

I placed my order on Oct 15th. When I did not receive it, after 8 days, I called and spoke with someone who said it can take up to 10 days to ship from England. England? Why does your site mislead people into thinking you are based out of Miami? The e-mail I received also said orders ship out in 3-4 days. So I waited another week, and when I still did not receive my order, I called your toll free # and left a message for someone to get back to me. Well, I'm not surprised that I did not receive a call back or my shipment since you all are obviously in the business of deceiving people. I would like a refund for services not rendered and I will be reporting you as well as spreading the word to beware of your operation.

Thanks for nothing, and while I don't expect a reply, a refund would be appreciated.

Public Restrooms

I just realized something strange that I do in public restrooms. I noticed that when I walk in, I always take a big wiff so I can avoid the stall that smells like poo. I guess a lot of people must do that, but I just noticed that I do it, and I feel like a weirdo.

Voodoo Fest

I went to Voodoo Fest yesterday and thought I would share my experiences. I saw Juliette (Lewis) and the Licks, Polyphonic Spree, The Killers, The Pixies, and Green Day. Green Day blew me away. I'm not even a big fan of them but they were totally awesome. They covered "We Are the Champions" while the crowd waved their arms around. On another song, the singer asked people in the crowd "Who can play drums?...How long have you been playing?" Then he would pull the person from the crowd to play along. They filled the positions of drums, guitar, and bass, then let them play the whole song while the singer sang along. The kids were really good actually. Overall, they totally rocked, and I would definitely go see them again.

The Pixies were great to see as well. The band is a lot fatter than they used to be. I couldn't stop myself from looking at Frank Black's man-tits jiggling as he played guitar. But they were pretty fun.
The Killers were pretty boring and the crowd wasn't really into them...Even for their popular song.
Polyphonic Spree was VERY entertaining and VERY funny. I laughed and laughed.
Juliette Lewis was a lot tinier than I was expecting. She was a little skinny troll with a voice like Courtney Love.
So I'm not going again today because its a little too costly and there's only 1 band I wanted to see today--Velvet Revolver. Kid Rock is playing too but I've already seen him before and don't need the redneck experience again. Anyway, if anybody else is going or has gone to Voodoo '04, I'm interested in hearing about it.

Another trip to THE FARM

Friday I am leaving to visit THE FARM. My friend Gerrish and I are going to wish Ben a happy B-day and support him at Crafty Bastards. We also plan on visiting the Indian Museum, going to bars, and listening to metal. I am anxious to see everyone and think this trip should be more fun than the last one. I hope ya'll can make some time to hang out with us...
Speaking of metal....My favorite band, Monster Magnet, is playing in Baltimore Friday night. I really want to go, but have no one to go with, and no transportation to and from. Any suggestions on how I might be able to go are welcome.

Also, if anyone wants me to bring them something from New Orleans like Zapps, Abita, or dirty whores... let me know. No promises though.

BORED!!!

I am so bored waiting for this stupid hurricane. I bought a bunch of alcohol thinking people would want to come over and party, but the traffic is keeping everyone either at home or in traffic.
I just got back from riding my bike around with a Supergirl shirt on. I rode by this kid who shouted "Supergirl! We're gonna get bombed!!!
I would love to loot but I don't think I can get away with that yet.
Any other ideas?
