Catalonia

So, I'll be in Barcelona and along the Costa Brava next month for my birthday.

Anyone here ever been?

Apparently, a lot of this kind of stuff goes on:

It's in every single frickin' guide I've seen so far.

What else is cool that's not in the travel guides? Digame, Killoggs.

Faculty Prom Photo

The deranged professor and librarian at my company's holiday party:

Faculty Prom photo

I just received prints of these pics yesterday. I think it's weird that my company has prom-style photos at their parties... but we try to have fun with it.

So It's seemingly true that the SF contingent of Killoggs doesn't seem to be reading/posting here too much as of late. Perhaps it's the three earthquakes we had in one week. Perhaps it's because we have a forecast of possibly snow this week. Perhaps it's San Francisco values.

Things have been kinda boring around here save what I've just mentioned. Then again, I haven't really been paying much attention as of late. I haven't been doing much oot and aboot because it's been cold outside, which makes me want to wrap myself in a cocoon and watch Six Feet Under all evening. My thin CA blood thinks that it's been cold here this winter, although "cold" is often in the range of 40-50 degrees out.

We're in the middle of Macworld week, and the town's pretty abuzz with that. Every bus shelter and newspaper kiosk downtown is one big Apple ad. The iPhone has inspired many a lusting technogeek (myself included). I'm a bit saddened that Macworld has pretty much turned into iPodworld... there isn't as much computer-related stuff as there used to be. And definitely not as much good stuff for print designers such as myself. I spent an afternoon wandering the expo and came home with a new bus-powered external hard drive and a ton of promotional literature. Cheap Trick played the opening night party. I didn't go.

Just wanted to post an update from this side of the country. Where *are* the rest of you West Coasters, anyhoo?

Josh is published!

I ran into my friend Derek today, who had recently returned from a press check for JPG Magazine. He gifted me with an advance copy of the next issue, and guess whose photo is in it?

Woo! Congrats, Josh!

Bring on the Night

Sax n' Piano

I'm pleased to announce that the above photo that I shot (at Club Deluxe last December) has been selected as a top ten finalist in theBring on the Night Photography contest held by 7x7 Magazine !
7x7_cover The top ten photographs will be featured in the November issue of the magazine (which, as you can see here, has an "After Dark" theme). The issue should be out any day now... so keep an eye out for it!

Prints of the top 25 photos are being auctioned off to benefit SF Camerawork, a "non-profit organization encouraging emerging and mid-career artists to explore new directions in photography and related media by fostering creative forms of expression that push existing boundaries".

Congrats also go to my friend Derek (also known as one of the founders of JPG Magazine, the magazine that Josh is published in), who I noticed was also on the list of top ten photos for this contest as well!

I'm excited that my photography is slowly making its way into the public eye. I'm even more proud that I've been forgiving enough to myself and to my artwork that I feel comfortable in submitting my photography to these kinds of things. Self-criticism is a hard to thing to overcome.

National Day of Slayer

Don't forget that 6/6/06 is also NATIONAL DAY OF SLAYER.

Official Statement on Participation
  • Listen to Slayer at full blast in your car.

  • Listen to Slayer at full blast in your home.

  • Listen to Slayer at full blast at your place of employment.

  • Listen to Slayer at full blast in any public place you prefer.

DO NOT use headphones! The objective of this day is for everyone within earshot to understand that it is the National Day of Slayer. National holidays in America aren't just about celebrating; they're about forcing it upon non-participants.

E3 Exhausted

After being in LA for a week, I can say I'm done with E3 (and LA for that matter) for this year. I am back... bruised and scarred from the physical work, woozy from food poisoning and well, not really all here mentally. It's hard to go back to work, even though I was away on business.

I didn't get to walk around the expo floor too much, but I live vicariously through the photos and stories of the friends who I got into the show on industry invites.

So I have a few photos...

Teh d00ds
My friend Sean, with Wil and Bill (heh) outside of the West Hall.

That's a lotta PSPs
That's a heckuva lotta PSPs. These are all for demos on the floor.

See my Flickr set of the show, or some highlights in the comments. I also have some behind the scenes pix, and some pix of jaunting around LA in general.

HELLO NEIGHBOR

I received an envelope under my door the other day, from the HOA president of our building. Just thought I'd share it with you and solicit your opinions:

(transcribed verbatim, and name changed to protect the um, innocent)

----------

HELLO NEIGHBOR - A SURVEY

YOUR RESPONSE WILL BE MOST APPRECIATED

In Mid June of this year, I will begin soliciting our previous $35 annual voluntary fee per resident for the continuation of the program that greatly enhances the special nature oriented artistic statement that greets each of us as we enter our front door.

THE PLAN:

IN ADDITION TO THE ANNUAL
FLOWERS/PlANTS/CANDIES
AND HOLIDAY DECORATIONS
ON OUR LOBBY TABLE.

I WOULD LIKE TO BEGIN TO COLLECT CERTAIN
NATURE ORIENTED OBJECTS OF AT (at my own expense)
TO OUR FRONT LOBBY DISPLAY

These objects will range in cost between $10 and $50 each.
These objects would be displayed in the bookshelf nearest
The kitchen in the "Common Area" room.
These objects would be available to any resident of the building.
These objects could be checked out by any resident for a period Of between 2 days to 1 week.
A voluntary contribution of between $2 for two days and
A voluntary contribution of $5 a week us requested.

They would be items that you might want to "borrow" for a
Special Dinner or other occasion.

It would work as follows:
At the bottom of each item would be a 2 day or 7 day
Voluntary contribution fee of between $2 and $5

THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR IS THAT OUR
COLLECTION GROWS AND THAT THE COLLECTION
STAY IN-TACT.AND THAT IT DOES NOT VANISH AS
A RESULT OF "SELFISHNESSS"

THE VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS WOULD BE
USED TO PURCHASE ADDITIONAL SUCH ITEMS. Thereby
increasing our collection.

Please check one of the two survey items below and leave
It for me at the front lobby table in the enclosed envelope.

1. Yes John.......I would appreciate this fun and artistic program
2. No John.....I think this would tempt the "larcency" in some of us.

Please fill out the survey and put it in the enclosed envelope....Just leave it at the front table in the lobby.

My Fondest regards to all of you,
John
