countdown wii-minus 10 days

is it wrong that I can think of little else than the imminent Wii launch, and the new Zelda?

by all accounts, the pair are everything I'm hoping for...

that's all.

cognitive dissonance

from an e-mail I got from a co-worker today:

"just went to 'Bill' to ask him a quick question, which somehow degraded into his telling me how 'Ted' has a grudge against him and always messes up his computer, because 'Bill' once told him 'you can't possibly be what you say you are, because there is no such thing as a Gay Jew, because Jews kill gays...it's part of their beliefs'"

a living hades

A former co-worker of a coworker sent out this e-mail.

Names and places have been obviously changed to protect those who definitely don't need any more misery heaped on their heads.

Hi everyone,

Once again we have changed email addresses as we have gone back to AOL. Now our email address at home is ***NOT4U***@aol.com. Please drop us a line so we know we have your correct address.

Other then that only update I have is –

Persephone came to visit from New Mexico this last weekend, I think we saw her for about 30 minutes. She now lives in Gallup New Mexico with her boyfriend, who I have still not met. She is trying to have another child, and hopefully all will stay in New Mexico. I will be adopting Artemis and Ares formally as soon as possible.

Ceres is doing great!! She has been clean from all drugs, alcohol and tobacco for 4 months. She is getting a little poochy belly, expecting her first child on October 15th, a week before she turns 17. Her boyfriend is in Jail and will not be released before being deported back to Mexico. Who knows when she will see him again?

Artemis is learning to use the potty. Yesterday she pooped in her toilet, we thought we were make great strides, until later she pooped in the bath tub too, hoping she isn’t going to start pooping everywhere now!! She is beautiful as usual and always makes us laugh.

Ares is almost walking, he stands on his own but that’s as far as he will go. Maybe next week he will be running and chasing his sister. He is such a HAM. He has the biggest smile and the cutest laugh I have ever seen on and heard.

As for me, I am hanging in there, trying to stay a float. I am gaining weight from the POS Disease which has me scared to death and is making me very depressed. I will find out more about the cancer in a couple of weeks when they do more tests. I am scheduled for a bone density test in two weeks and my Doctor is also trying to get a sleep study scheduled, but the cost after insurance is still outrageous, so I am not sure if or when that will ever get done.

Have a great day,

Love, Demeter

Folks, this is what happens to your life when you use AOL.

sip this

wow. I just discovered Amazon's Statistically Improbable Phrase feature. It culls the phrases from the text that stand out in a particular book. This is a genius idea twith seemingly little purpose. It looks like at this point there is a limited number of books with this capability.

Some fun SIPs I found, for example:

* One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest : least black boy, bull goose loony, day room door, big black boys
* Tropic of Capricorn: sour rye, stiff prick, limburger cheese, little dough
* Catch 22: bloated colonel, tighter bomb pattern, big fat mustache, eggs for seven cents, intelligence tent
* Cryptonomicon: grand wazir, substitution alphabet, data haven, hive mind, dive plan, making license plates, strange information, main vault, math whizzes

It's also curious to see the writers who have no or very few interesting SIPs in their books (try Kurt Vonnegut for instance).

28 days later

Believe it or not, I discovered today that this was about to come out on DVD, and am now totally psyched.

I haven't seen it since I was in the single digits.

in my email today

Subject : Wil Wheaton's "Dancing Barefoot"

Wil Wheaton--blogger (www.wilwheaton.net), geek, and Wesley Crusher on
"Star Trek: The Next Generation"--gives us five short but true tales of
life, love, and the absurdities of Hollywood in his book "Dancing
Barefoot." Far from the usual celebrity tell-all, "Dancing Barefoot" is a
vivid, personal account of Wil's search for his true self. If you've ever
fallen in love, attended a Star Trek convention, or pondered the meaning
of life, you'll find a kindred soul in the pages of Wil's book.

First self-published by Wheaton in May 2003, available only on the
Internet and in select independent bookstores, "Dancing Barefoot" quickly
sold out of its first run of 3,000. Wheaton's next, longer work, "Just a
Geek" will be released in early summer 2004.

patriotic traitor or traitorous patriot?

I love the posters at this site. He mentions where you can buy them. I am putting my favorite on the inside for reasons that will become apparent. Finally a nice poster or two for my wall!
I embark on my cross country voyage friday. Three days of nonstop, 11 hour a day driving in a U-Haul towing an SUV, with very little sightseeing time. I will finally get to see New Mexico and maybe stop in Roswell for a minute or two, which as lame as it may be, I've always wanted to do. Then it is on to Portland, only to drop my girlfriend off and get on a plane the next day, returning to the now lonely BR. 35 days and counting until I am free...

Put him together, he will tear you apart

My insane endurance test begins at 2AM, consisting of a 15-hour nonstop trek to Chicago in a crowded Honda Civic. Tomorrow night a compadre of mine from way way back makes his film debut in the lead role in Jigsaw, an indie horror flick. I hope it is as silly as it looks. It is being shown as a part of the Flashback Horror/Sci-fi Con, which apparently features (although I probably will not get to see them) Bruce Campbell and Richard Kiel (Jaws from the Bond films). I am not big on the whole con scene, but it should be fun nevertheless. Any of you Chicago folks who are interested in this stuff should check it out.

bah

I was going to post this in the news section, but as my arabic is not so good (or rather nonexistant), it became a post. It appears to be photos from a militant islamic kids' show, prepping all the little children of Allah for a life of Jew killin'.
See it Here.

RIP

Attention all wayward Baton Rougeans: this afternoon the Bayou burned to the ground. All that is still standing is made of cinder. Highland Coffees was spared the worst of it, but there is still a lot of heat/water damage, and they probably will not be open for a while. I do not think anyone was hurt, as HC had plenty of warning to evacuate and luckily it is Sunday.
I have mixed feelings about this. For me and for most people I have spoken to about it, the place had gotten too unbearable to set foot in, and I had not been in at least 2 years. However it is a fairly old place and had some history, ( for you Non-Baton Rougeans, the place was featured in sex, lies and videotape) so I guess I am a little sad about it nevertheless. I am sure that you BR folks all have strong feelings (one way or the other) about the place. No word as to the cause...

If we are gonna start farking around here is my submission. If there is one person I hate more than Bil Keane, here she is, the only legal kiddie pornagrapher in America, whose photos decorate the homes of despicable human wastes everywhere, Ms. Anne Geddes.
Do your worst.

i like the word calumny

What Video Game Character Are You? I am Kong.I am Kong.

Strong and passionate, I tend to be misunderstood, sometimes even feared. I don't want to fight, I don't want to cause trouble, all I ask is a little love, and a little peace. If I don't get what I want, I get angry, and throw barrels and flaming oil at whatever's stopping me. What Video Game Character Are You?

Finally, a personality test with deep, nay, life-altering revelations.

After lurking around Killoggs off and on for a year, this is my very first actual post. I know an awful lot of people here, but very few beyond some introduction three years ago, or some dubious mutual aquaintance. I am currently rotting away in BR as a civil servant, abandoned by nearly everyone I know for fairer shores. And I hate unsolicited personal info so that is all.
