the couch is crazy. everyone sitting on the couch is crazy. we'll just blame the couch. crazy couch. it makes people do crazy things. sometimes the couch makes people hit themselves. the couch makes the cats crazy too.
bootie has never taken place on the couch. maybe that's why the couch is crazy. maybe it just needs a little lovin. maybe the couch just needs to kill a few kittens.
The St. Patty's Day parade was today in NO. totally fab. hotties everywhere, especially that hottie head named... Andy. I'm soooo in love..such beauty. yes, I'm drunk and in love for all the wrong reasons (hello, I want to wear fur), but I'm in love all the same.
I found this on my ankle as I was coming back from dumping my compost. Anyone know what this is? I'm guessing it is some kind of flatworm, but I have never seen anything like it. It made a nice little slime trail on my scanner.
So, this was the Memory as Perfection summer tour crew. We wouldn't have made it without the Ex-Cargo, the plastic car top carrier. We were able to fit a whole set of drums in it, which then allowed us to fit two amps, two guitars, four people and luggage all in the station wagon. I'll never forget you Ex-Cargo!
1 pack of veggie dogs (your favorite brand)
2 cans of vegan bisquits (10 in a pack). These usually fall under the SCIV category. So Cheap It's Vegan. Usually found as the store brand of your local supermarket, like Winn Dixie Brand, or Albertson's Brand.
Cut up veggie dogs into threes. Wrap bisquits around veggie dogs making sure to make tight seals. Bake at 400 degrees on an ungreased baking pan for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Guaranteed to be a hit at your next vegan get together, unless you have some of those "healthy" vegans there. I love vegan junk food!
If anyone would have told me that we would play our biggest show in Denham Springs, LA, I would have laughed in their face. But, last night we played for around 100 people at the Denham Springs American Legion Hall. The whole night was really crazy. The biggest draw was that Majority Rule played too. However, I think that a lot of kids just showed up because it was something to do. We actually got a good response from the crowd and sold a lot of merchandise too. Other bands that played: Same Dull Star (Denham Springs), The Kenmores (Baton Rouge), This Scares Me (Athens, GA), and Dear Diary I Seem to be Dead (New Orleans).
I can't stop wearing my Mr. Furious shirt. I traded one of my Asian Cajun Vegan Cook Zines for it to this woman who had swiped it and many other articles of clothing from a giveaway box of some expensive thrift store. It is the best shirt ever! If you aren't familiar, it is from the great movie, Mystery Men. Oh, by the way, if you want a copy of my Asian Cajun Vegan Cook Zine, send $2 postpaid to me at 1610 Adams Street, New Orleans, LA 70118.
Okay, due to the fact that I actually saw and met quite a few Killoggs folks a couple of days ago, I decided to break my year-long post silence. My band is on tour right now and we played at the Dirtfarm on Sunday. It was great to see Josh again and to play at his house. Especially since he is putting out a record for us on his label and he has never heard us play live. So, anyway, we hung out, ate grilled veggie burgers (until I accidentally nudged the grill which fell over in a cloud of rust), drank off a keg and then played and listened to some music. It was also a going away party for Abby (who I just met) and Taylor's birthday (he's in our band too). We had fun.
By the time we had gotten to the Dirtfarm, we had been on tour for about 6 days. Every place we have played has been totally different from the others. The night before, we played a house show in Richmond for a crowd of people that we mostly already knew. Then we went to this really great party on an island in the middle of the James River. The night before that, we played in this basement bar in some shady hotel in Greensboro, NC for about 8 people who were all in the other bands. They had some weird video recording mechanism that made all these cheezy fade outs to other camera angles and projected on this big screen next to us as we played. Our payment for the show was a copy of the video tape. So, now we have a cheezy video. We were thinking about selling it at the next show as a "really rare" live video of us. And the night before that, we played in this innocent little coffe shop-turned hardcore venue in Summerville, SC.
So, the tour has been really interesting and fun. Evan was with us up until Richmond, but stayed there when we headed up to DC. We haven't attempted to kill each other yet, even though we crammeded ourselves and all of our equipment in a volvo station wagon and a plastic car top carrier (called the Ex-Cargo with a snail logo). It has been great to follow our dreams of touring and playing out to a whole bunch of people. It has also been inspiring to see what great things other people are doing in other towns.
So, A History of Blank Pages is now history. Steve decided to leave the band because of his many obligations and because he is wanting to do some other music. But instead of replacing him and playing the same stuff, Taylor and I decided that we would finish our recording plans (with Steve) and then call it quits for this band. Of course, Taylor and I have plans to keep playing music together. In fact we are putting together the pieces of another band with me moving to bass and possibly Michael Burton (from Encompass and Stalemate) playing guitar. We may also bring in another guitarist. Taylor and I are both kind of excited about starting something new. It was a lot of fun starting out with A History of Blank Pages and doing a lot of things musically I had never done before. But with starting a new band, the oppurtunities seem endless.
The last few days have been really interesting. Tricia and I went to my parent's new homestead near Fort Polk, LA. They have 25 acres of land that butts up against the Kistachie National Forest. The Ouiski Chitta (I just butcherd that spelling) River is also accessable from their land. So, we spent the weekend swimming in the river and walking in the country bare foot. It was great. My dad also has a digital projector for him to do slide shows from his computer, but me and my sister kidnapped it so that we could watch the original Star Wars series on the "big screen."
I got back to New Orleans yesterday and just hung out. Today, I was headed off to band practice in Baton Rouge. As I was driving on I-10 a car stopped really fast in front of me and I swirved on to the shoulder to miss it. Luckily I missed it, but the car behind me also went off the shoulder and nailed my back end. His fender was stuck in my back wheel. He got out of his car and started praying. He was a real putz. He was spouting all this Jesus stuff and then tried to argue the ticket he got with the cop. The whole time I was thinking, would Jesus try to get out of a ticket? So, I missed band practice and am a little shakey about driving. The tow-truck guy told me that they will probably total my car. I am gonna miss that little Geo.
Hey Killoggers, the organization I work for, Teaching Responsible Earth Education (TREE) is in need of a website overhaul. We are an organization that brings kids from New Orleans out to natural areas to teach them about science and ecology in an "outdoor classroom" setting. Of course we are a starving non-profit and need to do it for cheap. What we need is a good flash intro using some of our great photos of kids having fun and learning outdoors, some pop-up window action, maybe a blog for our own editing and a mailer. We would want to pay you, as our experience with volunteer web designers has left something to be desired, but we cannot afford a whole lot. So, if you want to help a really good organization and make a little money while doing it, let me know.
So, we played our second show at the Dixie Tavern in New Orleans. The picture of the flier is in half, because I couldn't fit the length of it without making it really narrow.
It turned out pretty well. We were supposed to be the first band on, but it turned out that this band Kung Pao played first. We saw them outside the show when we first got there. They were sitting on lawn chairs and sipping beers. They were all wearing denim jackets with no shirt underneath and aviator sunglasses. It was pure sarcastic cock-rock. They had lyrics like "She was only sixteen, and her panties smelled like cotton candy." It was so bad that I just kept chuckling throughout the whole set. Everyone told us that it would be a hard act to follow.
We had to play on the floor because the other band needed to play right after us. I liked the idea at first because we would be closer to the crowd, but the sound was really bad down there. In fact, I couldn't hear shit, which made me more nervous. So, we blazed through our set, messed up on some stuff but kept the energy going. Taylor played really well. I fucked up on the guitar the whole time, but I felt okay with my vocals. I never really heard Steve, so I couldn't tell how he did. A lot of friends showed up and they said that we sounded better than the last show. That surprised me, because I felt like I was so off. Oh well.
Kill Devil Hills was good. They offered for us to go up and play in TN, but I doubt we get up there anytime soon. Some guy also invited us to play down in Long Beach, Mississippi this coming Thursday, but I will be out of town. But, I like the idea of playing for some kids out in the middle of nowhere.
So, all in all, it turned out well, and I really look forward to playing again.
Here is a picture of the banjo I just won off of ebay. Just a result of how I have been listening to way too much country lately.
In other music news, our next show is coming up a week from Thursday. It should be a lot of fun. We are gonna be playing with Kill Devil Hills, so that should be interesting. It'll be our first show in New Orleans. Anyone in the area should come and see us.
Well, I think that i may need a new head drawing. I have been getting really tired of my contacts bothering me lately. It is mainly because I don't take them out and that I have disposable contacts that last only 3 months and I wear them for years. So, I decided to get some new glasses that I would actually wear. I got some pretty emo looking ones and they make me look kind of trendy, but then again, I am kind of trendy. But now I am broke. I guess that is kind of trendy too.
Well, I haven't posted in ages, so I figured I would add my 2 cents. I have been working my ass off, but now that summer is at hand, I will get a much needed break. I don't really have big travel plans this summer because of the lack of funds. My band has a couple of shows coming up in New Orleans: May 16th @ the Dixie Tavern with Kill Devil Hills and June 22nd with some other band at the ARK. We are also planning to do some recording at the Living Room Studio in New Orleans. Hopefully that will put the ball in motion for our first 7 inch. Got my container garden kicking and a big ole composter in the backyard. Other than that, it looks like its going to be a lazy summer.
I love the fact that no one is in the office but me and I can therefore rock out to a copy of Metallica "One" which I got off of Audiogalaxy. It also reminds me how much I love downloading Metallica stuff just to spite them.
