So, the end of the world is pretty much nigh

Or, at least cheap energy. And that's pretty much the end of our society, whose cheapness and popularism rode on the sulfur dioxidey glow of a lot of wasted gas. We're pretty much on schedule as far as all those predictions of yore went. We're rolling up on the end of the Mayan calendar, affordable oil is a wet dream, we've sold out our production capacity overseas, Mickey Mouse, etc. et al., the new caste system, and thus, and so.

So, as society essentially refreezes itself where we are. As barriers to travel become boundaries of travel, what are you planning to do with the rest of your stuck-wheresoever-you-are-life?

I'm going tubing.

Call me crazy but I've started flying again. It's been 7 years since I got my private license and 7 years since I've flown a plane. I'm going back up today at 11am and I plan on getting my commercial license and switching careers. I'm no longer going to run from my dream because it's such an unstable indrustry. I'm keeping my day job while finishing up my training but when I'm done, I'm going to do the starving pilot thing full time somewhere.

That's not crazy. That's the opposite. When we spend our time toiling away for things we don't care about, ignoring our passions we subvert our own happiness.
kiche [email] said at 9:42 AM 07-02-2008:
it is truly the end of the world.

i am going to be moving soon, and i will probably have to start buying an unlimited monthly metro pass. this will push my monthly transportation costs to just over a hundred dollars.

oh the humanity!

    grrrr
brandon [email] said at 10:00 AM 07-02-2008:
Don't you pay like $1300 dollars a month in rent? Oil prices will get you. Whether it's the fact that the World's largest fiberglass Muskie will probably shut down and you'll never know what it's like to sit in its mouth and wonder. Or, the price of brocolli is going to like quadruple. Soon, when the ice caps melt and New York floods, and you're going to be haggling with some guy with gills over a scraggly cherry tomato plant.
kiche [email] said at 1:12 PM 07-02-2008:
the rent of my apt is much higher than that.

my half is much lower than that.

'tis true that i get it rent wise. but, where i live is worth it.

looking for a new place is an ungodly bitch, though. and i am worried that i will be paying more to live in a lousy/bad neighborhood.

when new york floods, i will take comfort in the fact that the gulf south and probably most of the midwest went underwater first.
art [email] said at 9:45 AM 07-02-2008:
I am buying a more fuel efficient car. And look forward to flying in class again now that the unwashed rabble can no longer afford to fly.
brandon [email] said at 9:55 AM 07-02-2008:
The last couple of times I've flown, I've had empty seats all around me. It must be a ghost-town now, considering. Although, it's cheaper to fly most places now than it is to drive. Seems like that would drive more poorites into the wing ed al you men ee um.

Flown a lot lately. Every plane overflowing with sweaty, greasy humanity
john [email] said at 2:52 PM 07-02-2008:
I've flow a lot recently too. All flights were extremely packed except for ones to Baton Rouge or New Orleans. Not many people flying in or out of Louisiana these days.
brandon [email] said at 3:19 PM 07-02-2008:
Well, that would explain it. Flying in and out of Denver, Chicago, and elsewhere, it's been from or to New Orleans and Baton Rouge. New Orleans, there's never a line. Baton Rouge is a freaking ghost town. Not even North Carolina was as sparsely populated as BR usually is.

flying to nola was a ghost town

I've stopped riding my scooter, and am now bicycling mostly. In the meantime, I'm trying to figure out how to convert my scooter to biodiesel.

I, too, am going tubing sometime soon. It's really the best way to travel, as long as you're heading downriver.
