Gotta love it...

I hate to do consecutive posts on the front page, but since I don't post all that often, maybe I can get away with it.

Anyway, I can't remember if I've shared with y'all my current employment situation. I work in a warehouse, packing and shipping books. Sometimes, I shred books. But mostly, it's packing and shipping. I've seen some mighty strange books pass by in the last 3+ weeks. Did you know, for example, that there are NASCAR-themed romance novels? And we're not talking tawdry ripoffs, either. These are officially licensed NASCAR products, with the logo and everything! Of course, I won't delve too deeply into the sub-genres of romance novels, because, frankly, some of them are kinda creepy.

Tonight, on my shift, a book passed thru my hands that actually caused me to guffaw, and exclaim aloud, "Haha! Brandon!" Fortunately, I don't work with anyone named Brandon, so I didn't have to explain myself. The book in question?

Furry! The World's Best Anthropomorphic Fiction!

Even at work, I cannot escape Brandon's sphere of influence...

Pshaw, I'm so over my nature-show bewilderment regarding the young and the yiffy. Cowboy-themed romance novels written for straight men, that's where the frisson's at.

You shred books? Why don't you just burn then, NAZI!!!
ed [email] said at 12:30 PM 04-03-2008:
Because then they couldn't be recycled... duh!

The books I shred are non-sellers that the publishers don't WANT back. So we strip the front cover off for credit, and shred the books for recycling. 90+% of what gets shredded is romance novels, bad sci-fi, and crime/mystery/thriller stuff.

I have wondered why we don't donate the stripped books to shelters, etc, but it ain't my call. And if my job interview goes well tomorrow, soon I will be shredding your right to privacy instead. :) (Yes, I am interviewing at a major telecom corporation, one that really wants immunity from prosecution right about now...)

Or you could ship them to soldiers in The Iraq! We used to do this for "community service" extra credit points during the Gulf War when I was in 8th grade.

Was it a good read?
