How near and how cheap?
kiche [email] said at 9:55 AM 03-27-2008:
walking distance (in a safe neighborhood) and preferably under $90 a night (that includes hotel tax).

About $125 at the cheapest.

Wyndham at Canal about 140

Wyndham at Poydras about 130

The Econo Lodge out near Gentilly rd will give you a room for 70 bucks, but that's a bit of a hoof.

Marriott, nevermind

Bourbon Orleans Wyndham Hotel
717 Orleans St, New Orleans, LA 70116
Sometimes you can get a room here below $90.

There's a Holiday Inn express over near North Rampart that's dirt-cheap. Not exactly the safest area.

Is surprisingly cheap. Last time I stayed in NOLA, I stayed there for about $100.

If you don't care about scabies the Marquette Hostel will put you up for $80 or less.

If you go through AAA, orbitz, or Priceline, you can probably get a cheaper deal at one of the above.

Brandon is WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG.

Book a room at The Ambassador hotel on Tchoup at Poydras. Decently nice hotel, 75 bucks a night. Do it.
brandon [email] said at 11:09 AM 03-27-2008:
Well, yeah. I usually crash at people's houses. And what, you have something against scabies?
brianbibbly [email] said at 11:09 AM 03-27-2008:
Edit: Brandon is RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT.

The Ambassador has jacked its rates up to $129 for the spring tourist rush. Sorry bout that. Usually you can get a deal there. Deal no more.
brandon [email] said at 11:12 AM 03-27-2008:
Naw, you're probably right. If you run priceline or orbitz for some of those hotels (I only did for one) there are substantial discounts. When I stay in New Orleans, it's usually because I'm too drunk to make it home and we pay the premium.
josh [email] said at 12:29 PM 03-27-2008:
i found a room at the holiday in on canal street for like $150 for a week using kayak.com
boudet [email] said at 1:06 PM 03-27-2008:
The Pontchartrain usually has good rates, right on St. Charles uptown. You can walk it or hop the street car (is it running?)
boudet [email] said at 1:10 PM 03-27-2008:
    nevermind...just checked their site,

"The Pontchartrain is currently doing extensive renovations. We are not accepting guest or reservations at this time. The re-opening date has not been announced. Please check back for updates.
Thank you for your past patronage, we hope to see you again soon on the avenue at the Pontchartrain.
    "

In that case, go with the ambassador.

You don't have any friends in New Orleans you can crash with? Adam still lives there. I am trying to think of who else.
kiche [email] said at 2:41 PM 03-27-2008:
me and my gf are gonna be there.

that's kind of a lot to impose on someone.
kiche [email] said at 2:41 PM 03-27-2008:
also, we were gonna stay about 5 days. also a lot to impose.
brandon [email] said at 2:54 PM 03-27-2008:
You're welcome to stay free... in Baton Rouge. I just don't currently have an oven, because I spilled some wort on it.
boudet [email] said at 2:56 PM 03-27-2008:
how did the beer come out?
brandon [email] said at 3:28 PM 03-27-2008:
Well, I soaked most of it up with towels. A lot of it went under the vinyl tiling and caused some blistering. Because it was all mostly vinyl and metal surfaces no real staining occurred. The real problem is that the Wort drained into the controls and then, once it dried became a solid mass inside of them. The next time I tried to turn the oven on the knob snapped off.
myriam [email] said at 9:29 AM 03-28-2008:
Whatever you do, definitely DO NOT stay in the airport Travelodge. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THE AIRPORT TRAVELODGE.
carla [email] said at 3:37 PM 03-28-2008:
The next time I go to NOLA I'm just going to stay with my good friends the Jolie-Pitts.
