I drove to my first destination (about a 3-hour trip) this past Friday. This coming Saturday, I will again be driving (about a 2-hour drive) to another for a day-visit with family, then I will be heading out the following Monday for another 3-hour drive for NYE/New Years.

Have I mentioned lately how much it RULES not to be in the tip of America's Wang any longer?

And yes - to everyone: safe travels, and much love and joy during whatever celebrations you enjoy, and throughout the coming year!

Hopefully your flight makes it into Ohare without delay. The weather has been crap here.
anthony [email] said at 2:36 AM 12-25-2007:
I flew into Midway a few days ago, and had no issue. We'll see how it is going back. Thanks for the well wishes.
myriam [email] said at 11:13 AM 12-25-2007:
ride to o'hare from a generous gentleman, sit at o'hare, sit at o'hare some more, 1st class ticket to las vegas next to some kind of fidgety overgrown 2-year old, sit around at vegas for awhile, thankful for the in-flight snack as all the restaurants in vegas are closed by 7pm(!), 1st class flight to orange county.

all in all, not too shabby! i got a lot of reading done. "what is the what" is very good by the way.
john [email] said at 8:23 PM 12-25-2007:
You and your snooty upgrades to first class! I'd be giving you a dirty look as I walk past you on my way to coach if I were on that flight! And make sure they keep the curtain closed so that you don't have to look at the swine in the back of the plane!
art [email] said at 10:03 AM 12-26-2007:
The problem now is that the curtain is mostly see though so we can still see (and smell) the commoners
myriam [email] said at 10:50 AM 12-26-2007:
Yeah, as soon as I get on I build a little fort out of all the extra first class pillows and blankets I get. That way I can block out the long, dirty line of commoners trampling past me, with their cheap luggage and fountain-nosed children.
art [email] said at 11:12 AM 12-26-2007:
            Ha!

Word on the street is that coach class brings a silent but deadly proletariat revolution as they pass through first class.
jake [email] said at 5:56 PM 12-31-2007:
            We appreciate you doing that.

On the way back from Dallas, I sat in the wide row just after the section border. I normally don't mind two small soda glasses and a bag of nuts, but it seemed like a lot less as I watched the silverware and towlettes, entres and then fudge sundaes get passed around not 10 feet in front of me.

It was sort of like those unicef lunches in High-school, where 25 of us would eat rice and beans while watching 5 kids get a three course meal.
myriam [email] said at 9:54 PM 01-03-2008:
Oh yeah, that's RIGHT! That's the way it should be!

Also, I am happy to report that they have returned to providing real silverware for your meals--including the butter knife--instead of that crappy plastic they moved to after 9/11.

Ahhhh... yes. Next time I'm gonna get good and trashed.
jake [email] said at 2:46 PM 12-25-2007:
I got to Belize in a little more than 12 hours.

Limo/taxi to SFO, 4 hour flight to Miami, 3 hour layover, 3 hour flight to belize, 2 hour flight to San Pedro island. And then a Mistubishi shuttle to the resort.

I think I lost an hour or 4 somewhere in there.

Here on the island, almost everyone gets around on cruiser bicycles and golf carts.
jake [email] said at 5:53 PM 12-31-2007:
Give or take, 9800 steps to get back.
anthony [email] said at 4:04 PM 01-03-2008:
I had a friend go there a week or two ago. I think his time was spent traipsing through the jungle and sitting on beaches.

      Why did you go?
jake [email] said at 10:00 PM 01-06-2008:
My parents wanted to take a family trip, so it was pretty much a free trip for me.
josh [email] said at 2:23 AM 12-26-2007:
  • lose my phone at liams sat night
  • wake up go to the indian resteraunt above it hoping they have a key. they do!
  • try and break the language barrier and get my phone. i do!
  • drive to BWI
  • all the lots are closed except HOURLY. i park there anyway.
  • late for my plane but thats okay because its delayed anyway.
  • we are delayed for 3 hours. at one point the captain says we will all miss our connecting flights.
  • somehow we get in the air.
  • connecting flight in minneapolis sits on the runway for an hour waiting for a catering truck
  • north dakota! it's -12 degrees!
  • hour drive to my parents
  • meredith [email] said at 10:12 PM 12-28-2007:
Ride to O'Hare via my friend Charles and his BMer the Blue Vixen. Delay on the plane, race to connecting flight in Salt Lake, picked up in Boise by parents, sister and brother in law, drive up to McCall in the mountains. Stay for four days. Drive down to Caldwell, stay with Grandma and Aunt, drive into Boise with sister and brother in law. End up on same flight to Salt Lake despite making reservations three weeks apart. End up on SAME ROW on plane to Salt Lake. My flight is delayed two hours, but because of that I get to watch my sister and brother and law get on the plane, wave goodbye and take pictures. Something I haven't been able to do since 9/11.

Then I bought a book, called John on the phone talked for awhile about how it sucks that we never get to fly first class. Get picked up by physical therapist friend who also fixes my shoulder that I managed to dislocate two days earlier falling downstairs trying to get to the family picture.

Just dug out a bottle of "thank god I'm home" Christmas gift wine and am waiting for John to get off work to have a drink, collect my cat from him and give him his present.
