Sweet Crude Bill plays the Velvet Lounge

My friends, Sweet Crude Bill & the Lighthouse Nautical Society are playing the Velvet Lounge in DC this week. They're a lovely ballad-rock band, like maybe Kurt Cobain as Rock-a-billy... Or Elvis Presley backed by Blues Traveler... Anyway they're great people and if you go, you'll get to meet my friend Munish, who lives in DC and has a head but has yet to be given a membership.

Here's lyrics to one of my favorite songs:

You're gonna get yours

You say you fight your war
For freedom and democracy
Well I don't pretend to understand
The complex bureaucracy
But I got two healthy boys and I intend to raise 'em
And if you try
To take em away...

...I'm gonna kill you, you son-of-a-bitch

I know the sweet taste of oil is fastened to your intellect
Weighin' down your judgement like an ox rope-tied to the back of your neck
But your greed's no cause to take my boys, or anybody else's
And if you try to take em away
I'm gonna kill you, you son-of-a-bitch

I spent seventeen hours pushing that boy out
And fourteen on his brother
And I'll be damned if I join the ranks of too many son-less mothers
Now I'm a peaceful woman I don't want no trouble
I'm not the one to make it
But I swear to the gods of all that's just
If you take one of my boys
I'm gonna kill you, you son-of-a-bitch

It seems to me these dirty wars will go on without end
What's to do but sing my song and keep on prayin
That no more mothers have to lay their sons or daughters in the ground
For freedom or democracy, oil or land or power
Cause what good to us is freedom if you take away our hearts
So if you take our boys, better be prepared
You're gonna get yours, you son-of-a-bitch
You better run and hide, you son-of-a-bitch
