car headaches

I have a car now, but I'm wondering if I should go ahead and have it registered in DC or resist. I don't envision myself living in DC much longer, and if I can obtain private parking for my car, I think I should resist. Also, I haven't gotten a quote yet, but I'm wondering if the insurance will be too much. The car's currently covered under my parents' policy, and it would only cost me about $70/month for liability and collision if I keep it under that policy. In Maryland, I couldn't even get liabilty only that cheaply, and DC will likely cost me more. For those of you (if any) with a vehicle registered in DC, do you have any advice for me? I would only be using this car on the weekends.

if you dont get private parking you will be looking at lots of tickets i would imagine

Our cars are still registered in Louisiana, but we have off-street parking.

How much are you driving the car now? Would it be feasible to sell it and use zipcar or rentals when you need to drive?

I was in DC for less than a year but I kept Louisiana plates the whole time and never once got a ticket. I go to Philadelphia on a Sunday and I get a ticket. Moral: Philadelphia must be destroyed.

Is it Philadelphia's fault you can't read?
I jest. That was all Rachel's fault.

It is the Fault of Philly that they are a secular progressive city that makes war on the Values of the Heartland and does not allow persons on Sunday to park for free. That was seriously the first time I have ever encountered that although since then I have heard that Manhattan and a city in Arizonia have similar hateful secularist progressive laws.

can you obtain private parking or is that just an idea? if you are looking to pay for a spot it will probably be $100-$200/mo

how much longer is 'not too much longer' in dc? the permit is only $15/yr but registration and license and inspection and all that is a pain in the ass and $200-$300 i think all together, i forget. also you live near irving st right? that street is unzoned so you can park there for a long time before they start ticketing you

There's actually a carport at my house, but it's occupied. I'm just considering the slim chance that I might know someone who has an extra space off-street. I have no intention of paying that much. I say "not much longer," but realistically, I'll probably be here at least another year, so $200-$300 would probably be worth it.

where you gonna move to?
