dressing for success

I have a job interview Thursday, and hardly any decent clothes to wear. Finding a nice shirt and a pair of pants shouldn't be a problem, but what's a good place in DC to find dressy shoes? Nothing too expensive, just good quality.

What's your shoe size and how much are you willing to spend?

Go to banana republic for a quick, reasonably priced interview wardrobe. They have very nice dress shirts, pants and shoes for you. Usually they have an extensive sales rack too that you can choose something from. Please don't give me some Rage Against the Machine excuse for why you can't shop there. You will only make it harder on yourself, waste time, and probably end up spending more money in the long run. Yes the clothes can be cookie-cutter there, but that is what a potential employer needs to see on a first interview. Shelve the wingtips until casual friday.

Another vote for Banana Republic. Brad, you can also go to the Hecht's downtown. It is conveniently located close to the BR, so between those two stores you can find what you're looking for.

...unless you're interviewing in the design field, in which case go a little bit more daring, but you can stay in Banana Republic if you want.

For shoes for men I am honestly a big fan of Aldo. Nordstrom, if you have one in DC, has an EXCELLENT shoe section usually (it started as a shoe store before it grew into a department store). Whatever you get, make sure it has a LOW PROFILE--i.e., when you look at it from the side, it should be more flat-looking than clunky. For the record, this is typically the style of italian shoe designers. The flatter, the sleeker, the better.

there is a nordstrom's in tenleytown, right outside the metro if i recall correctly, brad.

      aldo shoes are good.

Also Nordstrom is having its Anniversary Sale right now. I know becuase I just impulse spent 600 beans on their online store. Why do I do such things?
dave [email] said at 1:58 PM 07-18-2006:
awesome, i'll have to his up the one in town today.

you can drop some serious cash on shoes from Nordstrom's though.

the real question is why do you have to tell us about it? I have a real problem with buying more shit all the time, and I was just thinking I need to update my brown shoes...

          can't..
          resist...

Feel my Capitalism Beam penetrate you. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
brandonA [email] said at 5:44 PM 07-18-2006:
ha! i don't remember if my sleeve size is closer to 32 or 34, so I'll have to wait until I get home to complete the transaction. maybe I'll forget....

and trust me, i'm riddled with the beam - last night I set up my second widescreen monitor on a cantilevered arm, connected to my second PC - this one is in the lounge area with the comfy chair and all the consoles, just so I can watch movies and play games at the same time. totally fucking stupid and unnecessary, but what can you do???
jeremy [email] said at 7:08 PM 07-18-2006:
You can't do keg stands in Nordstrom's clothing, brah. What are you thinking
brad [email] said at 3:44 PM 07-18-2006:
Yep, that's what I got. Don't know anything about the designer (Aston Grey), but they look nice and feel good on my feet. Just hope they don't wear out too soon.
brad [email] said at 3:36 PM 07-18-2006:
Thanks everyone, but I went shopping before you all posted. I went to Filene's Basement and got a nice shirt and pants for $25 each, and a nice pair of shoes for $80. Wish me luck!
