Hey, the new Modest Mouse record came out today. I really like these guys. And the fact that the lead singer had sex with an underage chick makes me like them even more.
myriam said at 4:28 PM 04-06-2004:
cool! yes, they are quite good. their stuff is on itunes... nice and easy.

I thought he raped some girl in LA? That's what I had heard. Who knows.

I read the same thing, and I thought that the charges were dropped. What happened to the Phish Bassist who wanted to take artistic pictures of little girls?

Strangely, I did the exact opposite of Carla today--listened to the same two albums and chose the Modest Mouse one! How's the BR? The MM one is good.

    i'm feelin' the BR, Amanda.

it's definately different, a little more, how you say...ahhh yes...ethereal.

but definately good. it's on 4ad which i find strange as well. i guess MM is the next on my list of stuff to purchase. That and Franz Ferdinand, which sadly they did not have.

That's good to hear. I definitely like the early BR stuff. Interesting that they got signed to 4AD, and that the Pixies are touring again! I've heard Franz Ferdinand is good. The Pixies are coming through here (Vancouver), for 2 shows, but they sold out in minutes :P BR was here recently, and last summer too.

Hey, I'm going to see that Spokane Pixies show. I bought tickets on E-Bay. You should check out that option. Also, they're playing Bumbershot in Seattle on September 6. Those tickets are only 15 bucks. (god, i'm a nerd).
brandonA [email] said at 11:36 AM 04-09-2004:
I also bought Spokane tickets on ebay. Pricey, but worth it.

I desperately attempted to get tickets for the Vancouver BC show, but had to stop when they reached 200 bucks a piece. As the first US show, spokane is a close second...
neal [email] said at 12:08 PM 04-09-2004:
I think they are actually playing thier first show in minneapolis, mn on the 13th. (god, i'm a god). So, we're going to the second US apperance.

The new Blonde Redhead is very different. It fits in well on 4AD. While the it's the most well-produced, prettiest-sounding of their records, though, I don't find the melodies to be as strong. So of can be a bit too repetetive. But that's just a matter of personal taste, I still think it's quite a good album.

I bought that Blonde Redhead album, too. I like it well enough. It's a pretty album. It's good. Like you've all said, it does fit well on the arty, "we use to be a good label, now we're struggling, thank good the pixies are re-uniting cause our sales and artist really suck now" label known as 4AD.

Anyway, this Modest Mouse album is really, really, um, GREAT! A nice, long, good rock and roll record. And jeez louise, this is the first album that I've bought in a really long time where the whole thing is listenable. I think there's only one song that I really don't like, as opposed to most CDs I buy where I like 2 songs and the rest suck. (god, i sound jaded).
nathan [email] said at 11:12 AM 04-09-2004:
The new Blonde Redhead sounds great, but I'm not in the mood to listen to melancholy that much, so I bought Can's "Soundtracks". Can made some sillier stuff with Malcolm Mooney singing, but I would choose anything with Kenji 'Damo' Suzuki singing over Blonde Redhead. Can's "Ege Bamyasi Okraschoten" is also amazing and I would recommend against the Cannibalism compilations.
myriam said at 11:56 AM 04-09-2004:
It seems Blonde Redhead is playing here (Boston) tonight. Worth going to? I know nothing about them.
