I have read that he suffers from a disease that brings about unusual whitening of the skin. I have personally seen people with this though it is not as uniform as his is. Once, in high school, someone told me that he also did something to his skin.

So maybe he got pale splotches and then made the rest of it lighter so that it would not be noticeable. But it seems as though if one can make one's skin lighter, one ought to be able to make it darker.
