Moving on out . . . again!

Well, I'm moving again but not out of Seattle. My roommate and I can no longer live together so we have decided to break our lease and find our own apartments. Happy Happy Joy Joy! I spent all evening driving around the hill writing down vacancies. All I want is a nice brick apartment with a center courtyard, a washer/ dryer, parking, bay window, tile bathroom ,hardwood floors, claw foot tub, . . . . I currently live in a "sears siding" castle and it just sucks.

Also, this was my first week at my new job and I've discovered being in a Director position is not that exciting. All I do is attend meetings, write, develop strategy, attend meetings, write, develop strategy, attend meetings, write, develop strategy and on and on. I'm sure next year will be different because we have two events and I will be in full programming mode for the 2004/2005 season.

My Weekly Issue: I work for an organization whose mission is to offer programming on African-American culture. It is a small non-profit with three staff members and a volunteer - vol. coordinator. The staff is Black except for a male program coordinator who is Norwegian (I think?). I discovered this week that the two Black female staff and the former Black female Program Director are "all" married to white men. I confess, my first reaction was to be concerned about how our audience and members felt about this. To be honest, it seems like a weird office trend. It must be the lack of Black men in Seattle. The staff are actually rooting for me to find some "Black Love." One of the staff members said, they have a saying at the office, "Behind every great black women is a white man!" It's meant as a joke but I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry! The weird thing is, I feel some sort of "duty" to date a Black man, to save face with our community. In the end, I'll date who I want but I can't be following no trends!

You should hook up with Nelly. I would, if I was single and had a shot!

That just sounds ridiculous. I imagine dramatic music swelling as a deep resonant voice proclaims the quest of Denee: to prove her loyalty to the community by finding one black love.

It is ridiculous and funny! Angele, you just gave me an idea! I think this quest would make a pretty funny short film! I don't think my quest is going to succeed though. I get hit on by mostly Phillippines and multi-racial people. It's because people think I'm multi-racial, which I kinda am but really don't label myself that way.

      mmm.... multi-racial...

and what are you complaining about? ;)

That's weird. I didn't know there was a shortage of black men in Seattle. We need to ship some up there, pronto.

It's kinda like how my family always made fun of the fact that my sister and I dated white boys in high school. It's simply because we lived in white bread central, and there was hardly a selection of fine yellow or brown males.

i grew up in anchorage, alaska. there are not many people in alaska. and there defintely are not a lot of black people in alaska. haha. and while the northwest is more populated, every time i travel to seattle it does seem like a very white city to me.

and i probably notice and think that because i now live in the bmore/dc area, which is pretty diverse. and i gotta say that i'm really happy that i live in an area that includes lots of hott black girls! yay!
