CASHing in

Earlier today I was looking at eBay, and I couldn't believe how many people were bidding on John Ritter & Johnny Cash auctions. The same thing happened on eBay with World Trade Center memorabilia on September 11. People are just insane.

So I got to wondering if anyone had anything signed by both Johnny Cash AND John Ritter...cos I bet you'd make a fortune capitalizing on death if you did!

So I drew this thing over at Kara's house and Josh put it up on eBay. If you can't beat 'em, might as well join them. Not sure what to do with the money if people actually do bid on it. Does anyone know what charities Johnny Cash and John Ritter contributed to?

Here's the drawing (click for auction):

I'm gonna post a big long post about what I've been doing the last two months when I get time. Things have been pretty hectic...

that's really sick ben. you drawing june carter cash with a beard and all.

why are dracula and jimmy carter in the picture?
kiche [email] said at 2:38 AM 09-14-2003:
Benjamin J Claassen, the artist, has long been influenced by the works of these great men.

oh, this was drawn by your grandad? well that explains a lot. he draws really well for someone with advanced senile dementia.
Bendependent [email] said at 5:55 AM 09-14-2003:
here's an extremely badly photoshop colored version of this picture for you to use as a desktop if you like. Just right click on it and set it as your background (and stretch if you like). I really hate photoshop coloring jobs, and I will probably never do this again. Look how lazy I was with the burn tool! Kick ass. Go laziness!

damn that's cheesy.

Now I do :).

John Ritter was a supporter of the St. Jude Children's Hospital Among other things, Johnny cash supported SOS Children's Villages.

So, I have an idea and a suggestion. Since both men tried to make lives better for children, maybe you could donate the auction proceeds to Evan, for his students' trip?

I thought that was you! Hudson Hawk gave you away. Who are all the toys for?
Milk said at 12:10 PM 09-16-2003:
Ed just likes Pokemon. It's pretty neat. I used to have Pokemon toys my last 2 years of college. They were figures in a clear, rubber bouncing ball.

Spider used to play with them.

I have a Bulbasaur super bouncer! Bulbasaur's my favorite. :)

Ok, I'll stop before I start listing the stuff I have. By the way, anyone want some Pokemon jelly jars? With or without jelly? I swear, I don't know what I was thinking when I bought those.
ed [email] said at 8:37 PM 09-16-2003:
        HAHAHA! Good ol' Hudson.

As Milk said, the toys are *almost* all mine. For example, the Celebi Pokemon plus was for me, because it was Barb's favorite Pokemon. It's sitting there on my desk smiling at me even as I type. The Monsters Inc nightlight is for me, too, but only because I gave the one I had in the kitchen to a five-year-old who visited my apartment and admired it. I actually heard a report on the radio (which cited a NYT article) about adults who idolize Peter Pan, i.e., never wanting to grow up. I wouldn't say I go that far, although people who saw the number of teddy bears, Pokemon, Powerpuff Girls, and Monsters Inc stuff in my crib might disagree, but I definitely enjoy so-called childrens' programming more than I enjoy so-called adults' programming.

The report mentioned, by the way, that more Americans in the 18-49 demographic watch the Cartoon Network than watch CNN. I am definitely one of those folks. News sucks.
ed [email] said at 8:41 PM 09-16-2003:
And by "plus", I meant "plush".
milky [email] said at 10:09 PM 09-16-2003:
I couldn't toy out this apartment, unfortunately. I really wish I could, too. I had a Count Chocula light switch cover. Yeah, I had to cut it out of a cereal box, but it was cool.

I ate so much Cocoa Puff one summer, I had enough UPCs for 3 glow in the dark yo-yos.

I had a bunch of ape toys (Congo, various movies) but I gave them to a bunch of children in adult/married university housing at LSU ("Do you play with those toys, mister? Do you want them? Can I have them?").
