So I was pretty happy with Dr. Fazul... Until I took the bandaid off of where they took my blood.
I've never had ANY shot or blood collection or anything leave a mark like THAT. Ben says it's like something from Requiem For A Dream. It looks a lot grosser up close.

Mr. Paramedic let Mr. R.N. practice starting IV's on him... and used the full range of needle gauges. Lots of bloody gauze later, Mr. R.N. felt comfortable with IV insertion.

I guess it is made worse if one watches it closely and/or if one is already a "hard stick" and the person putting in the catheter has to dig around a bit.
I confess I found it spooky watching my blood flow out into the bag whenever I gave blood.

Didn't go back after that.

One day, though, one of my fellow students had put the tourniquet on too loose and my veins were just not standing up enough. So he dug and dug looking for one. In fairness to him, he did offer to take it out but I told him, "Just stay in until you hit it." Then I passed out.
gen [email] said at 9:25 PM 08-27-2003: Yeah - same here. First time I had blood tests done, they needed 3 blood samples at 20 minute intervals (to check hormone levels), and it took the nurse three tries on two arms just to get a vein for the first blood sample collection - by the third try I was feeling really faint so they took me to lie down and told me to look away. The more experienced nurse got the 2 other samples without any difficulty. Needless to say I looked like a junkie with track marks on both arms for a few days after that.
To this day I have never given blood - I lived in the UK for 5 months in 1998, so I am barred from giving blood until they come up with a quick screening test for Mad Cow prions in humans.
