I live in a very quiet, very conservative, very surburban area.
I have a dog, participate in a carpool to get the kids to school, and a lawn.
It is a constant struggle for me to not feel domesticated.
However, there are things I can do to keep the old spirit alive.
I listen to Ministry when I drive the kids to school, wear my "STFU" shirt when walking the dog, and always stick a Libertarian and a Green party sign in my lawn around election time.

meenk said at 1:12 PM 01-13-2003: Heh. We got a gnome for Christmas, too. Ours has a pickaxe. Perhaps both of our gnomes are members of a secret gnome militia which will rescue those of us who've cared for them, when martial law kicks in.
Emmaleigh said at 12:49 PM 03-10-2003: my moronic grass nazi neighbor just had a convo outside my house about the residents of my duplex and how we were assholes b/c we put out our trash cans on the grass so his lawn guy couldnt cut the fucking grass every other week. so I really really really need to now where to get some garden gnomes besides stealling them from other people. and any other suggestions for some nice loud tacky lawn ornaments would be great!
kiche [email] said at 7:51 PM 01-12-2003: dude, emmaleigh, not only do you live around the block from ann rice and trent reznor, marylin manson used to live in your neighborhood.
kiche [email] said at 11:02 PM 01-12-2003: the lower garden district, fool. you live several blocks down from those people. emmaleigh needs to come on and talk about people lookin' for shit carved in oaks around her neighborhood 'cuz it's in an ann rice novel.
Emmaliegh said at 11:50 PM 01-12-2003: trent bought drapes from the store where I work on monday. so far he has gotten lamps, a console table, and the drapes. anne hasnt been spotted in the store.
Emmaliegh said at 12:17 AM 01-13-2003: ummm it's a trendy store but the stuff he got (with the help of a decorater/designer) are good picks. the table is dark brown and has 2 shelves under the table top. good lines. the drapers are dark brown or cocoa (ugly) and are made of belgian linen (expensive burlap sacking) and the lamps are very nice. very arts and crafts. I cant really decribe them...they are called "beaux arts torchieres". I here from shop owners on magazine street that he is into mid-century (30s-70s) stuff. geeze, I know waaay too much about trent.

Lisa T. said at 2:16 PM 01-13-2003: don't call me fool! and i can get excited about celebrities who live around emmaliegh's apartment. just because i don't technically live there doesn't mean it's any less relevant to me. why do you have to hurt me so much, kichie???
Tallulah said at 12:13 AM 01-13-2003: Do you think if Manson knew I was part of the will weaton posse that he'd stop by? :)
I'd wear the proof right on the porch!
Tallulah said at 12:20 AM 01-13-2003: Um, not that I know of but I think if he knew there were half naked girls on their porches in the Garden District he might move back!
kiche [email] said at 9:12 AM 01-13-2003: yeah, the lower garden district is real conservative. i'm suprised jimmy swaggart doesn't just pick up his ministry from the heathen town of baton rouge and move on down to the lower garden district.
courtney [email] said at 9:00 PM 01-13-2003: I struggle with this as well. Since I am a stepmom-to-be in a fairly suburban type neighborhood, I am already sinking into the domestication rut.
Sometimes it sucks, but sometimes it's actually pretty cool.
I think I've become one hell of a cook since being in this situation.
