I was feeling particularly drained today, so I almost didn't go. My friend William insisted I accompany him though to a local "Baton Rouge Linux User's Group" meeting though, but only after an extended trip to the Bayou first. So I dropped by his house, we headed to the Bayou, I downed a crown & coke, a Bayou Long Island Iced Tea and we went to a user meeting that rated a geek factor of at least 10.
Meredith will tell you that I don't drink. But I'm glad I did tonight because it was 2 hours of setting up WebAdmin under RedHat 7.1. A very good lecture by a guy I've met before, but I really don't go for that kind of thing like I used to. Anyway, most of the meeting was a blur (sadly from my lack of drinking, I've become a lightweight), but at a drawing at the end of it, I won a copy of "Linus Torvolds: Creator of Linux--and David Diamond: Just for Fun". It appears someone read this before I got my hands on it.
Then we went to the BR DataCenter where I drooled over new equipment they've installed and suprised myself at how much better a network admin I make when I'm not sober enough to second guess myself. Time to fill out a civil service form.

evan said at 7:09 PM 06-05-2001: josh always uses karrie as the scapegoat and plays this game where he is the good guy who would do anything, but his evil bad-guy girlfriend won't allow it. the gig is up though bra
Jeff said at 3:00 AM 06-05-2001: It was quite impressive, especially the way I didn't feel anything until I had to sit perfectly still for 2 hours.
Josh, does Aurora Brad live off Morning Glory? I could swear I saw him dressed in khakis and a good button down shirt cutting his lawn, cell phone on the hip. I think the first thing I said was, "I think I know that guy. What's up with that?"
Jeff said at 7:51 PM 06-05-2001: That's messed up. This guy looked EXACTLY like Brad W. Maybe it's his last great stragedy to save the business's quality of operations.

Most of those LUGs (not to say this one, but all that i've come in contact with) are best taken when drunk. Much funnier too. Lots of cheap Unix shell command jokes like "finger this" and "i'd like to root her box!", etc.
Dustin Puryear [ url ] said at 9:35 AM 07-12-2001: The LUG meeting wasn't that boring was it? And sorry about the book. I was sent two copies, one from Linux.com and one from the now defunt 32BitsOnline.com to do book reviews. I only read one of them, and meant to put that one in the library. Seems I gave you the read copy and kept the new copy for the LUG. Feel free to trade that one for the new copy--I really don't care what is where. :)
Oh, and the company I work for will be moving to the Tech Park in August. See you then.
