I just watched the DVD of gladiator. I'd never seen it before. That movie is so dumb. I hated it. I thought it was a horrible piece of garbage. I saw Traffic a few months ago too. I hated it too. I never said anything before cos you guys all seemed to like it, but whoa, what a load of crap. What else? I watched that movie Celebrity and thought it was dumb. I fell asleep during it. I haven't seen anything good since Being John Malkovich....oh yeah and I rented this Judas Priest video that was pretty wicked awesome...

I liked the Mexico and the Cops segments- I thought the Michael Douglas segments were not so good.. too filled with people spouting off facts and diatribes. But the Mexico parts were very good, I thought. I agree that Gladiator was a POS.

I liked the hot pregnant girl, the Mexican Brad Pitt and the fact that all of Mexico was yellow, but it aggravated the fuck out of me as far as taking it seriously as having any sort of message that wasn't totally cheesy. I just thought it was bad. It was unimpressive and bad.

We (we as in younger, more "hip" people) may think that the Drug War is futile and have come to this conclusion years back, but I don't think the mass of America does. I think the filmmakers hoped to kinda tip those people off... "Hey, guys, this is sort of obvious, but you seem to have missed it..." In terms of a big budget movie, I don't think it's really very played out. And who was the Mexican Brad Pitt? I was really impressed with the camera work through out, too, especially considering it was about 90% hand held and Soderburgh was his own DP (as usual) and Camera Operator (his first time). Again, I'd say I liked all the parts except the "blue" scenes, the Michael Douglas ones. They were too much policy, too much exposition. Don Cheadle, Del Toro, and Zeta Jones were all really good in it as well. I love Don Cheadle, I think he is awesome.

Topher Grace is the brightest young actor around in my opinion . But I think that the movie didn't have any crossover power because it was filmed to appeal to arty types and there were too many "I'm in the liberal club and I laugh at the rich" jokes to convert anyone to being against the drug war. New Orleans's movie theaters are in hick land and people were walking out of the movie during the interracial sex scene. I think that the majority of the audience was high, expecting a Richard Linklater movie. And he could do so much better with Sodenberg's movies anyway. I'm sure that young rich dealers don't think that there's anything futile about the drug war.
