give it a few weeks, and i'll be lacing up my skates and slipping on one of those familiar black-and-white striped jerseys.
oh, yes, i'm going to referee.
i pay $30 to take an open-book written test and get accredited. then i shadow a few games at the rink. then i get on the schedule, and call penalties on some little eighth graders.
i can't wait to make bad calls, scarring children for life, and listen to the catcalls of angry parents.
this will be fun. i get to skate, i get to watch hockey games, and i get paid. i don't know why i didn't think of it before. part-time employment, here i come.

xmx said at 4:23 PM 03-14-2002: there are much fewer parents at these games than soccer, football, etc. and i've been playing there for two years now, so i know a lot of them. and the younger the players are, the more likely they are to play for fun -- and i'm mostly going to ref youth games. the adult men's league has its share of fights but those games have two refs. it won't be a big deal.
