A Portrait of the Woody as a Young Man

Well, some of you were bugging me to put up pictures so you'll know what I look like when you stalk me. I agree, that tends to make it easier.

So here is the birthday portrait my daughter made for me last week.

That's me on the left with the black hair. Jordan is in the middle, with the long hair. And that's our little Jacob on the right, apparently wearing a beret. Oui oui!

Please don't P-shop my children, they may want to run for office some day, and I don't want this coming back to haunt them.

Thx.

Hey, I was just thinking how the portrayal of Woody so DOES NOT look like a penis.

    Amazing.

This is just another case of "subjective vision". That is, we see what we want to see.

i had sincerely hoped that child drawings by members' kids would never make it to killoggs

You know Woody, that's actually not bad. When my little sister used to draw people when we were little, they looked like jelly fish.

It is really really cool to read some stuff about how kids develop their drawing skills, and then see it happen and it's all true. Supposedly when she is 5, she will start adding the noses and ears, but those just don't matter yet. Last year, people were just eggs with faces and belly buttons all drawn on the egg, and little stick arms and legs. Now the heads are distinct, the arms are fleshed out, but not the legs. Crazy! I should dig those guys up.

I am two years older than my sister. And I remember being really really frustrated because she would draw this egg with eyes and a mouth and then she would draw one leg. Two legs. Three legs. four. five. six. seven. eight. nine. ten. She just wouldn't stop drawing the damn leggs!!!

Some things always amaze me. The only way she can make an X is by drawing a dot in the middle, then making 4 sticks come out of it. I tried to teach her the "normal" way, but she won't do it!

So Ben is 4 years old? Awesome! If his mommy and daddy bring him to my church, I can make play-dough animals and color with him while his parents go to "big people church."

      Man, that would totally rock.

this picture is questioning the morality of a child vs. the morality of an adult.

the figures on the right (the children) seem to have some sort of "wind" pushing them to the right (or to a place of good nature) where the sun shines down brightly and where red people can live in perfect harmony with the universe...

jordan is prancing. jacob is proud.

but dad...

...something evil is afoot. he has no wind pushing him. His head is being eaten by an evil black menace, which is keeping him seperate from the fabulous world of small red people with enormous hair and funny little hats.

he still has the signature paddle hands like the rest of the family, but he has been cursed nonetheless.

luckily he has a guardian butterfly protector, and a small yellow "sky fish" and a weird little flying bull dog thing with a black eye to protect him. he is happy, and wants to battle the menace, but doesn't quite know how. for the menace is a faceless flying blue (sad) thing with three legs and TV antennas for arms. He is looming, and planning out an attack as we speak.

I feel like this is a powerful piece. The composition is excellent. Its simplicity speaks volumes about humanity and it's search for good. It is very "man vs. nature". The choice of colors is extraordinary, and the the complexity of the juxtaposition of the legs (the whimsical nature they convey) is very hard to achieve even from an accomplished illustrative master such as myself. This is truly a masterful marker drawing with stickers on it (mixed media if you will).

simply breathtaking.

I look forward to seeing more artwork from your children.

I also enjoy the whimsy of the legs, especially Jacob's legs, which together with the inclination of his head, contrive to give him a very fey appearance.

Also, I deduce that the artist is right-handed.

I can't stop laughing. I'm going to read this to them when I get home. Her first profesional art critique!
