Frist defended his own civil rights record, which has been criticized by civil rights organizations. He said studies of his votes ignore actions such as “the fact I go to Africa once a year or twice a year to work with the African American community."
xmeredithx [email] said at 6:34 PM 01-12-2003: hahahahaha, that was on "meet the press" this morning, right? i laughed out loud at that. the best was when tim russert threw the graphic of the naacp's scorecard for frist up...all Fs. but even better was when al sharpton was on next and russert scolded him about nelson mandela not being a world leader any longer. sharpton in '04!
xmeredithx [email] said at 6:37 PM 01-12-2003: oops, i just admitted to watching "meet the press", nay, i admitted to being up early enough to watch "meet the press" and nay, now i admit, i woke up on purpose to watch "meet the press." tim russert has a little crush on me.
brandon [email] said at 6:44 PM 01-12-2003: xmx: i mostly wanted to say "tim russert has a little crush on me"
bmx: Tim Russert is a candy-pants and I would arm-wrestle him for you.
toolazytologbrandon said at 6:41 PM 01-12-2003: It's ok, I watch the McLaughlin Group, and mouth SNL lines over what they're really saying. Today's episode didn't need it though as the question was posed - really -
"On a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate the potential for a conflict in North Korea to bring about Doomsday (Domesday, too, maybe) 1 being the equivalent of no conflict, 10 being metaphysical apocalypse, apocalypse now! -- doomsday -- the end of the world, Brian?"
kiche [email] said at 7:36 PM 01-12-2003: “the fact I go to Africa once a year or twice a year to work with the African American community."
??? is this a typo? did he say this? if so, he not only gets an f in civil rights he gets an f in geography. africa isn't in america, so the africans there aren't african americans, they're just plain old africans.
Woody said at 11:15 AM 01-13-2003: THe phrase "African-American" is so pervasive, I'll bet a lot of people would just use it in place of "black" without even thinking about what it means anymore...
Woody said at 12:18 AM 01-14-2003: I believe they prefer the phrase "American-Americans".
Seriously though, I agree with you. But if every black person you ever met was an "African-American", your brain might wire them together on you. I remember a clip from Leno or some other "dumb guy on the street" interview and the guy stopped himself and asked "What's the name for an African-American who's still living in Africa?"
art said at 12:21 PM 01-20-2003: daschle sucks, kennedy's too drunk, and gephardt? what party is he in again?
I have to agree with you there. The democrats need a fresh face. By the way, ol' Ted's pretty sober these days and has (apparently) given up womanizing. What is the world coming to?
art said at 12:34 PM 01-20-2003: hmmm... then what good is he?
He has passed on to the role of senior statesman, which basically means that although he is the conscience of the party, no one expects him to do anything.
kiche [email] said at 12:56 PM 01-20-2003: you mean they wheel his half-conscious body out to sponge up the last drops of popularity he has left among the general populace?
art said at 1:02 PM 01-20-2003: He is still extremly popular in Massachusetts, he throws oodles of government money at women and minorities. He is now sponsoring a bill that will require businesses with more than five employees to provide health coverage.
I am sure he will be re-elected for many years after he is dead.
brandon [email] said at 7:50 PM 01-12-2003: Maybe he means he fights for freedom in Liberia.
Frist: Majority leader and Che Guevara to the Episcopalian-African descendents of the African-American repatriates of the dusty streets of Monrovia: the founding of which great city is geographical proof positive that the Republican party have always had great concern for the black man: as long as he was on the other side of the ocean and dirt poor.
"Aiiiyeee! I, Frist, feel your pain, and declare, today, cardial massage by my own hands for all who need it, for the next 5 minutes, and then I have to go, home, to America, where it doesn't stink, and I feel less badly when I lie publicly."
kiche [email] said at 8:07 PM 01-12-2003: he probably visits evil oil companies and the like who beat down blacks. then visits the balcks that are beaten down and tells the m they should be good xtians and carry the cross the lord has put on their back.
does anyone have any lingering doubts that the (r) after republicans names doesn't also stand for "racist"?
amanda [email] said at 7:47 PM 01-15-2003: Frist also killed kittens.
No, really. "The Daily Show" reported that, in his autobiography, Frist admitted to adopting cats from the various animal shelters in the Boston area, taking them home, treating them like pets for a few days, and then killing and experimenting on them for the good of science.
brandon [email] said at 9:19 PM 01-15-2003: "for the good of science..."
Exactly. Just like those cats they shot in the head at LSU. Bill Frist is a Good Man, who didn't kill his share of kittens through masterbating. Nosiree! He cut them up nice, manly, and proper.
*sarcasm directed at Repubs, Frist, and company, not at Amanda*
amanda [email] said at 3:48 AM 01-20-2003: I would just like to point out HOW COULD FRIST KILL KITTENS?!?! I mean, you may not be a cat person, but what-in-the-hell??? I go into an animal shelter and start with "ohhhhh" or *girly sobs*. I don't do, "Gee golly, that grey kitten looks purrfect (heh heh) for my latest 'take the heart out of the beast for an hour' experiment." That's just way too sick and Republican for me to deal with. In conclusion, I hope that millions of kittens scratch Frist's eyes out.
