Pool Toy Collar

This is one of the pieces I made earlier this year. It's silkscreened, stuffed, sewn, and goes all the way around my neck.

ummm, well i guess the answer to that is simpler than you might think. it's a soft squishy collar that covers part of my face. most of my pieces are based on the idea of protection and often what is hidden is important. it's also important that is is very soft and comforting to me. visually the shape is meant to have animal characteristics as well as be very toy like, sort of a reminder of childhood.

wow. how long did it take to make, talice? it's cool.
talice [email] said at 12:44 PM 08-21-2003:
i don't remember how long it took. maybe 2 weeks or so? i'm very process oriented in my work so there's a lot of steps and planning involved in this kind of thing with the silkscreening and getting it on the right place on the fabric and whatnot.
luster [email] said at 2:56 PM 08-21-2003:
what is that material? is it felt? it looks like it would be hard to silkscreen such a soft material
talice [email] said at 4:01 PM 08-21-2003:
it is felt. yeah, it's hard to screen on material that's too fuzzy. definitely the flatter the material the easier it is. i think i had to screen a whole bunch of them before i got some that were consistent enough.

actually, i'm just in front of the window of my apartment. it's no high tech device, though that sure would be fancy.
talice [email] said at 12:40 PM 08-21-2003:
it would definitely sink! alone it just looks much like one of those pool toys that you put around your waist with the goofy animal head.
anotherben.. said at 7:16 PM 08-21-2003:
then it is probably better not to market it as a pool toy in todays litigative society. however, it does look like it would keep your nose toasty warm on cold windy winter mornings. i wish i had one when i lived where snow fell from the sky.
