1) Attendin a spring training game in Orlando. The fact that the Braves beat the Mets was a bonus.

2) Getting home from a weekend trip and having two kittens snuggle with me for hours.

3) Sitting on the patio, shoes off and drink in hand, listening to the wind chimes as the breezes kicked up wavelets on the lake.

4) Driving a freshly-repaired truck which once again has air conditioning. Yes, we set record high temps here for like 15 straight days.

5) Watching kids playing at work. Especially the 3, 4 and 5-year olds. They don't know Dubya, they don't know Saddam ,and the joy they exude is quite a wonder to behold.
gen [email] said at 8:48 PM 03-25-2003:
In the last seven days:

1. Being notified that two library books that I've been wanting to read have finally become available.

2. Watching the Oscars, especially Nicole Kidman winning for her performance in The Hours, and Adrian Brody for The Pianist.

3. My brother enrolling in the International Baccalaureate program at Upper Canada College, and receiving a huge scholarship and a mentorship from an alumni employed at Lyndon B. Johnson mission control. (He didn't get in at MIT, and that leads me to think less of MIT for passing up a student as promising as my brother.)

4. Obtaining encouraging results in a sub-study of my thesis (validation of algorithm for identifying comorbidities from administrative data), and having a very positive meeting with my thesis supervisor.

5. Getting promoted to examination office assistant for the upcoming final exam session.
milky [email] said at 10:13 PM 03-25-2003:

angele [email] said at 9:24 PM 03-25-2003:
1) Being around my family who all go out of their way to help me. (unconditional love, free ultra-sounds, really good advice, etc.)

2) Catching up at Rue with my old best friend who is in love with someone who appears to be a really great guy.

3) The kids. They are so cool. Especially Gui who told me that I didn't have to say "excuse me" if I burped or farted because he loves me "just the way I am."

4) The fact Gui was listening when I went into a vague description of the difference between digital and analogue. When he talks about his keyboard to strangers, he makes sure to tell them that it is "digital" unlike a wurlitzer. (we saw a man playing a wurlitzer at the zoo.)
Emmaleigh said at 9:32 PM 03-25-2003:
1. getting a postcard from jeff.

    oooo I have more!
-spur of the moment "drive bys" that have saintly surprises.

-when the creepy guy finally left my house (3 hours after he finished work on our stupid class project).

-seeing a sign on the interstate that reads "emergency parking only" and then noticing a truck parked on one side of the sign and an old guy fishing on the other. (apparently fishing is an emergency.)

I've actually had a pretty happy week (as long as I dont turn on the radio or tv).

    Man this shit is gay.
milky [email] said at 11:45 AM 03-26-2003:
oh, c'mon. I'd rather have a post where there's no religion, no gub'ment, no war, no politics, no ill will, no "I HATE COPS." I can't take the other stuff, so that's why I posted this.

Other than that, yeah, it does sound kinda gay. *shrugs* I sound a bit like Mister Rogers.

Except Mr. Rogers wouldn't over-feed the fish, steal Mr. McFeely's mail and throw Trolley at small children. ;)

4. Rocking out in my living room in my pj's at noon on a Friday.
5. My dog smiling at me when I took him for a walk immediately thereafter.

Ohh...I evny you sooo much. I wish I had the time and money to go...it's going to make SXSW/Lollapalooza/Jazz Fest, et all look very lame. It's resetting the bar pretty high.

I went last year and it was madness so there was no way in hell I was missing it this year. Plus James Brown is gonna be there, and I ain't passing up the godfather! They (being Superfly and AC Entertainment) are in the process of putting together a Bonnaroo NE in New York so I think they are gonna try and make this a huge fest everywhere. Who knows maybe they'll come to your town next?

Baby Duck said at 1:40 PM 04-30-2003:
Talking to a 60-something US pilot in San Jose, Costa Rica, who is about to retire there, about family, benevolent dictatorships, common decency, guns, the ABCs (CIA, FBI, etc), foreign policy, Ayn Rand, computing (he insisted he had Windows 97 installed on his computer), and a myriad of other topics.

Walking down a poorly lit road in Costa Rica with white-green fireflies blinking sexual overtones to one another, swarming all around you.

All of my skin tingling with life-reassuring sensations as an aura of sweat thickens from the humidity. As it more and more deeply envelops me, I realize had I not been born and raised in New Orleans, I would be complaining every 15 minutues. I am physically delicate, but the childhood memories flood back to me, reassuring me everything will be all right, no matter how much I drench in moisture or itch from mosquito bites. It beats the dry flying dust of north Texas any day.

Speaking of Texas, I am painfully reminded that I live there now every time I mistakingly order red beans and rice. My friend, Marino, has an uncle on a farm in Costa Rica. The anachoristic fusion of 21st century water-pumping technology and 1st century housing is intellectually amusing. The water systems use the simplest principles of physics, yet use advanced plastics. My eyes light up when the uncle offers red beans and rice, tastier than any to be had in Texas. I compliment the chef by offering wafers I bought in a pharmacy for dessert.

Typing this very minute on a Spanish-oriented keyboad. It is QWERTY with a numerpad, and F keys and number keys going across the top, but all similarities end there. All the special characters are in different places. Shift 2 is not a '@'. I have to Alt+6+4 for that. It makes email addresses annoying. Typing markup is grrrrr! heh! The backtick is more prevalent than the apostrophe. Which is odd, since Spanish only has a forward accent mark.
